An established and growing commercial electrical contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Project Manager to take responsibility for the delivery of larger electrical projects across London and the South East.
This is a hands-on project delivery position with a particular focus on live, occupied and critical environments, where careful planning, permits, phasing and communication are essential.
Typical environments include hospitals, trading floors, airports, MOD facilities, commercial buildings and live data centres.
While the business does undertake data centre projects, these are predominantly additions, alterations and upgrades within operational facilities rather than new-build data centres. Experience delivering electrical works where the client's operation cannot simply be switched off is therefore particularly important.
The Role
You will take ownership of larger electrical projects from preconstruction handover through delivery, commissioning and final close-out.
Working alongside an established Preconstruction Lead and Project Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered safely, commercially and to programme.
Responsibilities will include:
-
Managing commercial electrical projects across London and the South East.
-
Taking projects from preconstruction handover through to completion and final account.
-
Managing works within live, occupied and operational environments.
-
Developing project programmes, phasing strategies and delivery plans.
-
Coordinating shutdowns, permits, access and works around critical client operations.
-
Managing electrical site teams, supervisors, subcontractors and specialist suppliers.
-
Maintaining strong relationships with clients, main contractors and consultants.
-
Monitoring project costs, variations and commercial performance.
-
Working closely with the commercial team to protect project margin.
-
Managing procurement, labour requirements and project resources.
-
Chairing and attending client and project progress meetings.
-
Ensuring testing, commissioning and certification are completed correctly.
-
Driving projects through the final stages rather than allowing close-out to drift.
-
Managing snagging, defects and outstanding works.
-
Ensuring O&M manuals, certification, handover documentation and final accounts are completed and closed out properly.
Requirements
The key requirement is someone with a proven track record of delivering electrical projects within critical or live environments.
You will ideally have experience within environments such as:
-
Hospitals and healthcare facilities.
-
Trading floors and financial institutions.
-
Airports and transport infrastructure.
-
MOD or security-sensitive facilities.
-
Live commercial buildings.
-
Operational data centres.
-
Other occupied or mission-critical environments.
You should also have:
-
Strong commercial electrical project management experience.
-
A good technical understanding of electrical installations.
-
Experience managing permits, shutdowns and works within operational buildings.
-
Strong programme and project planning skills.
-
Experience managing subcontractors, labour and supply chains.
-
Good commercial awareness, including variations and final accounts.
-
Confidence dealing directly with clients and senior stakeholders.
-
Strong knowledge of testing, commissioning and project handover requirements.
-
Full UK driving licence.
A Genuine Project Finisher
A major part of this appointment is finding someone who finishes projects properly.
We are looking for a Project Manager who remains engaged through the difficult final stages of a job and takes responsibility for getting everything over the line.
That means:
-
Snagging completed.
-
Testing and commissioning signed off.
-
Electrical certification issued.
-
O&M manuals completed.
-
Handover documentation submitted.
-
Variations agreed.
-
Final accounts closed.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrable track record of taking ownership of this process rather than simply moving onto the next project once the installation is substantially complete.
The Team
This is not a Head of Projects or departmental management position.
You will be joining an existing structure and working closely alongside a Preconstruction Lead and an established Project Manager.
The requirement is for an experienced Senior Project Manager who enjoys running and delivering significant projects, collaborating with the wider team and taking responsibility for successful project completion.
Benefits
-
£65,000 – £75,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
-
Car allowance.
-
Company pension.
-
Additional company benefits.
-
Long-term opportunity within a growing electrical contractor.
-
High-profile projects across London and the South East.
-
Genuine autonomy over project delivery without the expectation of running an entire department.
