Job Purpose
To safely and efficiently operate an HGV Class 2 hook-lift vehicle within refuse and Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) operations. The post holder will support the collection, transportation, and movement of waste containers and materials, ensuring services are delivered effectively while complying with health and safety requirements, environmental regulations, and operational procedures.
The role requires a commitment to providing a reliable waste management service, maintaining high standards of safety, and supporting the smooth operation of refuse and recycling activities.
- Operate an HGV Class 2 hook-lift vehicle safely and efficiently within refuse and HWRC operations.
- Collect, transport, and exchange waste containers, skips, and recycling units as required.
- Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and report any defects, damage, or maintenance requirements.
- Ensure waste loads are safely secured and transported in accordance with legislation and company procedures.
- Complete relevant paperwork, vehicle checks, and operational records accurately.
- Follow all environmental, health and safety, and waste management regulations.
- Support the safe and efficient operation of Household Waste Recycling Centres and associated waste services.
- Provide a professional and courteous service when dealing with colleagues, contractors, and members of the public.
- Assist with general site duties and waste management activities where required.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Work flexibly across a Monday to Sunday operating schedule to meet service requirements.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties required to support refuse and recycling services.
- Valid HGV Class 2 (Category C) driving licence.
- Valid Driver CPC qualification.
- Experience driving hook-lift vehicles or similar waste collection vehicles is desirable.
- Experience working within waste management, refuse collection, or recycling operations is desirable.
- Knowledge of vehicle safety checks and transport legislation.
- Ability to work safely in an operational waste environment.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including weekend working.
- Commitment to health and safety, environmental standards, and customer service.
Location: Newport - NP20 2NS
Hours per Week: 37 hours per week (Monday to Sunday working pattern)
Payment Schedule: Bi-weekly payments
Overtime: Overtime paid for any hours worked over 37 hours per week
