Educamps Adventures runs exciting residential adventure camps for young people aged 12–17 in the New Forest. Our camps bring together outdoor activities, team challenges, excursions, evening activities and a brilliant camp atmosphere.
We are looking for a reliable, organised and friendly Camp Chef / Cook to join our summer team and take the lead on preparing meals for our campers and staff.
This is a key role within camp life. Good food makes a huge difference to the children’s experience, so we are looking for someone who can provide tasty, balanced meals, keep things running smoothly in the kitchen and work well as part of a busy residential team.
The role
You will be responsible for preparing and serving meals for children and staff during our residential camp programme. This will include breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as helping with packed lunches where needed.
You will need to be confident cooking for groups, managing food preparation, keeping the kitchen clean and organised, and following all food hygiene and safety procedures.
Main responsibilities
- Preparing and cooking meals for campers and staff
- Supporting with breakfast, lunch, dinner and packed lunches
- Catering for dietary requirements, allergies and special meals
- Keeping the kitchen clean, safe and well organised
- Following food hygiene, allergen and food safety procedures
- Supporting with stock control and food ordering where required
- Working with the camp management team to plan meals and manage timings
- Creating a positive, welcoming mealtime environment for children and staff
- Maintaining high standards of hygiene and professionalism at all times
About you
We are looking for someone who is calm, organised and confident in a kitchen environment. You should be able to work independently, manage your time well and stay positive during busy periods.
You will need to be comfortable working around children and young people, and you should understand the importance of safeguarding and professional boundaries in a residential camp setting.
Essential requirements
- Experience cooking for groups, schools, camps, residential settings, events or similar
- Good knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen safety
- Ability to cater for allergies and dietary requirements
- Reliable, organised and able to work well under pressure
- Friendly, professional and positive attitude
- Willingness to complete safeguarding checks and training
- Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to apply for one
Desirable
- Food Hygiene Level 2 or above
- Experience working in a school, camp, outdoor centre or residential setting
- Experience planning menus and managing food orders
- First aid training
