Job Purpose:
To safely and efficiently deliver and collect plant, machinery, equipment and associated materials to and from customer sites and our depots and support in the smooth running of the depot. The role is responsible for ensuring that all loads are transported safely, securely and in accordance with company procedures and road traffic legislation.
NECESSARY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
- Appropriate driving licence for the vehicles operated.
- Relevant driving experience.
- Good understanding of road safety and vehicle checks.
- Experience of working in a customer-facing environment.
- Ability to safely load and secure equipment.
- Good communication skills.
- Reliable and punctual approach to work.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Flexible approach to working hours and changing operational requirements.
- Team player with a positive attitude.
- Calm and professional when dealing with customers and site personnel.
Desirable
- Experience within plant hire, construction, civils or a similar industry.
- Previous experience transporting plant and machinery.
- PTS competence.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safely operate company pick-up or any other vehicle qualified and legally able to drive.
- Deliver and collect plant, machinery, attachments, tools and associated equipment from customer sites or company depots.
- Ensure vehicles are operated in accordance with road traffic legislation, company policies and operator licence requirements.
- Complete all required driver & vehicle documentation accurately.
- Load and unload plant and equipment safely using appropriate equipment and procedures.
- Ensure all loads are correctly positioned, secured and suitable for transportation before commencing a journey.
- Carry out appropriate checks on load security throughout journeys.
- Use chains, straps, restraints and other approved securing equipment correctly.
- Report defects, damage or maintenance requirements promptly.
- Keep the vehicle clean, tidy and presentable.
- Provide a professional and courteous service to customers.
- Comply with all company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Follow site-specific health and safety requirements when attending customer locations.
- Wear the required PPE when visiting sites and within our depots.
- Ensure safe systems of work are followed when loading, unloading and securing equipment.
- Immediately report accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
- Ensure the yard is clean tidy and kept in a safe condition.
- Clean company vehicles including Vans, Sweepers, HGV’s, Plant and attachments.
- Carry out collection and delivery of parts.
- Refuel machines on site.
- Assist with the loading and unloading of Plant from Lorry Loaders and Hiab Lorries.
- Ensure plant attachments are stored correctly and safely in the yard.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the workshop ensuring any spillages are cleaned in a timely manner.
- Maintain the storage of tyres in a safe and tidy manner.
- Conduct weekly asset checks of plant in the depot, recording details of asset numbers or serial numbers.
- Undertake basic maintenance activities as instructed, once a risk assessment has been carried out.
- Assist in more complex maintenance activities under supervision, once a risk assessment has been carried out.
- Support the HGV drivers as the second person in the cab for deliveries/collections.
Pay: £13.75 per hour
