The Role
To work as a Production Operative in the Blend Department where the main activities include weighing up, mixing, packing, stacking and material handling.
To assist the Blend Shift Manager by co-ordinating and supervising the department, ensuring that all plant and equipment are safely run to their optimum level, producing quality products in line with master production schedule expectations and manufacturing targets.
To understand the critical control points identified through HACCP and ensure that they are in operation at all times. To take responsibility for the shift when the Shift Manager is absent.
To report any issues observed relating to quality, safety, sanitation, machinery or throughput to the Department Manager.
To ensure that all personnel within the department are fully trained and adhere to the company policies and procedures at all times.
Job Description
Labour
Manage and co-ordinate holidays to enable Blend Manager to resource shifts effectively.
Manage sickness and absence, conducting disciplinary procedures when required, in line with company policy.
Responsible for ensuring that correct manning is available in order to run the shift effectively in line with Master Production Schedule, liaising with recruitment agencies where appropriate
Co-ordinate all shift personnel and ensure they carry out their responsibilities in line with Newly Weds Foods health and safety and hygiene standards.
Responsible for ensuring that all Team Leaders, Operatives and Temporary Staff are adequately trained on plant, machinery, systems, procedures, personnel and health and safety practices and records are maintained.
Conduct Annual Personal Development Reviews to review performance and identify training requirements
Manage the performance of Operatives and carry out disciplinary actions in line with Newly Weds Foods HR policy when required
Quality
Co-ordinate activities to ensure the quality of product is maintained at all times ensuring Corporate Quality Standards are adhered to at all times
Ensure all manufacturing documentation is completed in an orderly, professional, timely manner and submitted to the Blend Manager for verification
Report and follow up to timely conclusion any technical or quality issues within the department to the Blend Manager
Effectively manage corrective actions as identified through Production Non Conformances and Customer Complaints through to satisfactory conclusion
Develop and maintain the Standard Operating Procedures for the Blending Department
Documentation
Ensure all relevant paperwork is completed correctly and in a timely manner
Ensure all relevant records are added onto the computer in a timely manner
To assist in the review and update (where necessary) of all work instructions and procedures when required
Performance
Co-ordinate activities to ensure production volumes and target dates are achieved in line with the Master Production Schedule ensuring Corporate Manufacturing Standards are adhered to
Liaise and with Shift Engineers to ensure that maintenance activities are prioritised and carried out with a minimum amount of downtime to production
Sanitation
I.T Systems
Report all I.T Systems issues via the IT Helpdesk, ensuring priority issues are managed effectively and efficiently to minimise impact on Manufacturing
Manage “Out Of Hours” I.T Systems issues as identified in the “IT Out Of Hours Procedures” document through to resolution
Report all other “Out Of Hours” I.T Systems issues via the helpdesk only using the Out Of Hours telephone number for “Business Critical” issues
Health & Safety
Provide active leadership to drive a safety compliant culture.
Ensure that all risk assessments are identified and reviewed at the specified interval for the shift.
Ensure that all staff are trained and are compliant to all risk assessments, and standard operating procedures.
Actively contribute and deliver for your area all Corporate and Site safety initiates, policies and objectives.
Ensure that all tasks are conducted safely, adhering to NWF Health & Safety Regulations working in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and to follow all company procedures. Report any hazard to a your shift or department manager
General
To undertake training and to assist in training other or new members of staff as required
To work at all times in accordance with the Company’s policies and procedures
To undertake such other duties as may be required within the general scope of the job

Experience / Knowledge / Skills Desirable:
- Previous food factory experience, preferably FMCG
- Knowledge of Unity system
- Basic Health & Safety and Basic Food Hygiene qualifications
- Reach truck licence
- Counter balance licence
- Current PPT license
- Negotiation/delegation skills
- Training and development experience
£45,917.76 (inclusive of 18% shift allowance).
