About us: Meridian is a specialist private client law firm based in a rural location near NEC/Coleshill town centre. A mixture of solicitors and tax specialists, we are one of the largest private client practices in the region, with a turnover of approx £5m, and comprising 31 fee earners (including directors) plus 13 support staff.
Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Accounts Assistant to join our finance team. The successful candidate will support daily financial operations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in processing financial data. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your accounting skills within a dynamic and professional environment. The ideal applicant will have experience with various accounting software and a strong aptitude for data entry and financial administration, working within the Solicitors Accounts Rules framework. Experience with LEAP and Xero, or similar legal and accounting software, would be an advantage.
Responsibilities (not exhaustive)
- assist with daily postings of office and client financial records, ensuring timely and accurate cashbook management and general ledger accuracy
- completing daily bank reconciliations for both client and office accounts
- daily preparation of online bank payments, (occasional) cheque raising
- daily allocation and reconciliation of payments – to include notifying staff of incoming funds, verify sources, and process receipts accordingly
- input matter-related financial transactions into LEAP system and ensure correct transfer to Xero
- assist in quarterly client interest calculation and processing
- input non-matter (nominal ledger) related transactions into Xero
- assist Accounts Supervisor and Practice Director with finance-related queries and resolve client financial queries
- invoicing and credit note issuance ensuring correct VAT treatment
- review ledgers to ensure any errors are picked up and corrected in a timely manner (allowing minimal review of accuracy pre accounts production)
- review debtor and creditor ledgers to ensure items are cleared as soon as possible
- ensure compliance with Solicitors Accounts Rules (including AML related processes), reporting any breaches
- provide fee earners with ad hoc financial information regarding matters and debts
Experience
- proficient in online banking
- proficient in LEAP or other Legal Software
- proficient in Xero or other accounting software
- practical knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules and regulations
- Self-motivated and able to ensure day to day Cashiering and Bookkeeping duties are completed with supervision/support from colleagues
- effective communicator, adept at managing and resolving routine financial inquiries

Salary: Dependent upon experience
Hours: We are looking for somebody to work c14-16 hours pw - spread flexibly across three or four days. The successful candidate would also need to be flexible to cover full-time during holidays / extended absence in our finance team.
Location: Meridian Private Client Solicitors Limited, Wood Rydings Court, Packington Lane, Little Packington CV7 7HN (www.meridianprivateclient.co.uk). This is office based due to the nature of the role.
Own transport is essential due to the location of our premises (close to Coleshill and NEC). On site parking is provided.
A competitive salary with 25 days holiday (pro rata) plus Bank Holidays is offered, plus a holiday purchase scheme.
