Reports to: Material Planning Manager
Hours of Work: Your normal hours of work are from 07:30 to 16.15 from Monday to Thursday and 7.00 to 15.30 on Friday with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day, you might be expected to work such additional hours as the demands of the business require. You will also be entitled to one working from home day per week.

Job Summary
As the Materials Planner, you will be responsible for ensuring the timely availability of materials and components to support our production and build schedules, demonstrating our philosophy that "Everything is Important."
The role is responsible for planning and coordinating material requirements, managing inventory levels, and maintaining continuity of supply to meet operational demand. You will interpret production schedules to create material demand plans, monitor stock levels against agreed targets, and proactively manage supply risks to minimise any impact on production.
Working collaboratively with suppliers and cross-functional teams, you will develop accurate material forecasts, coordinate deliveries, and build strong supplier relationships to ensure materials are available when required. You will also play a key role in resolving material shortages, supporting supplier performance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance planning processes, supply chain efficiency, and overall operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Schedule and control the supply of materials and components to meet the build plan requirements.
- Schedule and control the supply of materials and components to meet the vehicle build plan.
- Monitor and report material shortages, ensuring risks to production are identified and communicated promptly.
- Liaise daily with the Build team to review and resolve vehicle-specific material shortages.
- Work closely with Material Controllers to manage part availability and coordinate actions to prevent build delays.
- Attend build and production meetings, providing updates on material status, shortages, and recovery plans.
- Collaborate with the MRP Data Analyst to resolve demand planning issues and improve material planning accuracy.
- Maintain and communicate car-by-car material status updates during SOS meetings.
- Manage supplier communications where required to expedite deliveries, resolve supply issues, and ensure materials are delivered on time.
- Monitor stock levels against production demand and planning assumptions.
- Interpret build schedules and MRP requirements to create accurate material demand.
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks that may impact production schedules.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve material planning and supply processes.
- Develop effective working relationships with internal teams and suppliers to ensure the timely supply of materials.
- Support supplier meetings and contribute to actions that ensure production requirements are met.
- Implement and evaluate processes for material delivery from supplier to workshop where required.
- Interpret the master schedule to create material demand and plan material supply.
- Create and issue forecasts to suppliers, as well as developing good relationships with suppliers to ensure demand for materials is made and deliveries made on time.
- Support supplier meetings and negotiations to ensure demand for materials is met.
Skills/ Abilities and Attributes
- A good understanding of supply chain management or expert knowledge of a specialist area
- Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing and automotive processes and components would be an advantage
- Knowledge and experience of using MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems or similar
- Previous experience of materials planning and managing the smooth supply of materials in line with production requirements and budget
- Must have great attention to detail.
- Reliable and punctual
- Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills
