Hampshire County Council is the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) for Hampshire. The role will be in the Flood and Water Management team (FWM) flexibly based in the Winchester offices and working from home.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Support Officer to work within the Flood and Water Management (FWM) team at Hampshire County Council. The team sits within Universal Services Directorate and, with support from our Highways, Planning, Ecology and Engineering colleagues, we undertake Hampshire’s Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) statutory planning roles; determine applications for land drainage consent; investigate flooding incidents across the county and liaise with other Risk Management Authorities (RMAs) to create Hampshire wide Flood Management Plans.
The successful applicant will provide administrative and technical support across the whole team where needed. This will include working with FWM investigation officers, Ordinary Watercourse Consent (OWC) officers and FWM project managers to record flood incidents; liaise with members of the public to pursue solutions to surface water issues and brief senior officers and elected members. The successful applicant will also be involved in the communication of FWM advice and guidance both internally and externally through the sending of letters and leaflets, the FWM website and press releases etc.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate an interest in the Flood and Water Management sector, would ideally have administration experience, basic knowledge of local government, be comfortable communicating with members of the public about emotive issues, show an interest in gaining new knowledge and possess excellent communication skills.
This is a busy, varied and interesting role within a small hard-working team of professionals who are passionate about mitigating the effects of climate change and reducing the risk of flooding across Hampshire.
This opportunity is advertised as full time. However, we are also happy to consider applications from people wanting to work on a part time basis and / or wanting to work flexibly.
