SENAID is an educational advocacy and SEND support charity rooted in the West Midlands. As a growing organisation, we are seeking a proactive and committed Community Impact Lead to strengthen our visibility across Birmingham, develop community and professional relationships, and coordinate our volunteer team.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building meaningful relationships, representing an organisation confidently in the community, and turning engagement into practical opportunities for families. You will also support SENAID to evidence its reach and impact through accurate records, community insight and contributions to reporting and funding activity.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Representation
- Represent SENAID at school coffee mornings, family hubs, Early Help events, family drop-ins, community events and other outreach opportunities across Birmingham.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with schools, family hubs, Early Help teams, community organisations and other relevant professionals.
- Ensure SENAID’s services are clearly understood and accessible to families, professionals and referral partners.
- Proactively identify new partnerships, networks and outreach opportunities, particularly in communities where SEND support may be harder to access.
- Follow up engagement opportunities and maintain relationships rather than relying on one-off contact.
Volunteer Coordination
- Coordinate day-to-day volunteer engagement, including rotas, availability and regular check-ins.
- Support the onboarding and induction of new volunteers alongside the Operational Lead.
- Maintain clear communication with volunteers and support a positive, accountable and inclusive team culture.
- Identify any support, development or operational issues affecting volunteer involvement and raise these appropriately.
Community Impact & Contribution to Fundraising
- Support the collection of impact information, including engagement figures, feedback, quotes, community insights and case stories.
- Provide concise updates for monitoring reports, funding applications and partnership proposals where required.
- Capture learning from outreach activity, including emerging needs, gaps in provision and feedback from families and professionals.
- Help demonstrate the reach, relevance and impact of SENAID’s work.
Administration & Organisational Support
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activity, partnership contacts, events and volunteer involvement.
- Attend internal planning and review meetings and contribute to the development of SENAID’s community engagement activity.
- Work with the Operational Lead to ensure outreach activity reflects organisational priorities, service capacity and areas of need.
- Support wider organisational activity where appropriate, including events, resource distribution, content gathering and occasional training or induction activity.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who:
- Is passionate about inclusive education, community engagement and improving outcomes for children and families affected by SEND.
- Is a confident communicator who can build relationships with families, schools, professionals and community organisations.
- Has experience in community engagement, outreach, education, youth/family support, the voluntary sector or a related field.
- Is proactive, organised and able to manage responsibilities with limited day-to-day supervision.
- Is comfortable representing an organisation independently at meetings, events and community activities.
- Can follow up relationships and opportunities consistently rather than relying on direction.
- Has experience supporting or coordinating volunteers, or can demonstrate transferable experience.
- Is comfortable gathering impact information and producing short written updates.
- Understands the importance of professional boundaries, confidentiality and safeguarding.
- Is committed to SENAID’s values, grassroots approach and culturally responsive practice.
Role Details
Contract: Part-time, 16–19.2 hours per week, initially 12 months
Salary: £14.50 per hour
Location: Hybrid — remote working, weekly community outreach across Birmingham and approximately one office-based day per week
Reporting to: Operational Lead
