Company Overview
Our client is an established plant hire business operating a busy depot and workshop environment. The business provides a range of plant and equipment to customers across multiple sectors and prides itself on maintaining high standards of equipment reliability, safety and customer service.
Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Workshop Foreman to lead the day-to-day running of the workshop and supervise a team of skilled Plant Fitters.
Position Summary
The Workshop Foreman will take responsibility for coordinating workshop activities, allocating workloads and ensuring plant and equipment is serviced, maintained, repaired and prepared to a high standard.
This is a hands-on leadership position suited to an experienced Plant Fitter, Senior Plant Fitter or Workshop Supervisor looking to take the next step in their career.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate a team of Plant Fitters.
- Plan and allocate daily workshop workloads.
- Oversee servicing, maintenance, inspections and repairs of plant and equipment.
- Diagnose and assist with mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
- Ensure equipment is maintained to a safe and hire-ready standard.
- Monitor workshop productivity, quality and turnaround times.
- Prioritise repairs to minimise equipment downtime.
- Liaise with management and the wider depot team regarding equipment availability and priorities.
- Ensure workshop paperwork and maintenance records are completed accurately.
- Maintain high standards of Health & Safety and workshop housekeeping.
- Support the training and development of workshop staff.
- Provide hands-on support with repairs and breakdowns when required.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience leading or supervising a workshop or maintenance team.
- Strong hands-on experience working with heavy equipment, plant machinery or similar mechanical assets.
- Practical maintenance skills, including routine servicing, mechanical repairs and fault-finding.
- Good understanding of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Ability to organise and prioritise workloads within a busy workshop.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and service documentation.
- Good communication skills, including coordinating with technicians, drivers and management.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements within workshop and plant environments.
- Basic IT skills for maintenance records and documentation.
- Level 3 NVQ in Plant or Machinery Maintenance, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Previous experience within plant hire, construction or a mechanical workshop environment.
- Relevant technical or vocational qualification in Mechanics, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience working with a range of heavy plant and construction equipment.
- Additional plant maintenance, mechanical or engineering qualifications.
- Carpentry experience for equipment structures or site-related tasks.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
