Trellis is Scotland’s national therapeutic horticulture charity. We help people improve their health, wellbeing and connection through gardening — and we support practitioners across health, care, and community settings to deliver high quality TH programmes.
We’re now embarking on an exciting new phase of development, and we’re looking for a Growing Well Development Officer to help us create something transformative: sector specific toolkits that make therapeutic horticulture accessible, practical and easy to adopt across Scotland.

About the Role
You will lead the development, piloting and launch of two comprehensive Growing Well Toolkits tailored to priority sectors such as GP surgeries, care homes, hospitals and community organisations.
This role is all about enabling others. You’ll design “out‑of‑the‑box” materials — activity sheets, videos, training modules, learning packs — and work closely with practitioners, partners and beneficiaries to ensure everything is accessible, evidence‑based and grounded in real‑world needs. The next phase of the work will be promoting and encouraging take up of these tools and models. You’ll also help out in running some hands-on therapeutic horticulture programmes to ensure you have good insight to frontline work and practitioners’ working realities.
You’ll also help Trellis build strategic partnerships, strengthen our infrastructure, and move from reactive support to a scalable “train and enable” model that reaches thousands more people.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, produce and pilot two sector‑specific therapeutic horticulture toolkits.
- Create accessible, graduated and practical resources for practitioners.
- Capture learning from pilot sites and refine materials based on feedback.
- Share/participate in frontline service provision and document processes & learning
- Build relationships with NHS leads, social care providers and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to national frameworks, quality standards and evaluation tools.
- Support Trellis’ transition towards systems‑change and long‑term sector development.
About You
Essential:
- Experience in developing resources, toolkits or training materials.
- Strong project management skills and confidence working with multiple partners from different backgrounds and sectors.
- Ability to build relationships across health, care, justice or community sectors.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate practice‑based knowledge into accessible guidance and learning materials.
- Experience in and understanding of therapeutic horticulture, nature‑based interventions and community wellbeing.
Desirable:
- Experience in health, social care or community development.
- Knowledge of relevant outcome measures, evaluation methods and translating research into practice development guidance.
- Familiarity with policy relating to health improvement or social prescribing.
