Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Head Stockperson to join our team and oversee the care of our pigs and management of our pig farm. The ideal candidate will possess strong animal husbandry skills, basic mechanical aptitude, and a thorough understanding of pig rearing practices. The role involves daily farm activities ranging from the supervision of sows farrowing to selecting marketable animals on our farrow to finish weekly enterprise. The successful applicant will play a vital role in supporting the farm’s productivity and sustainability through effective management and hands-on involvement.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily care of the pigs, ensuring their health, safety, and proper nutrition
- Assist with animal husbandry tasks such as feeding, managing, handling and health checks
- Perform heavy lifting as required for livestock handling or equipment movement
- Carry out general maintenance tasks including equipment repair and upkeep of farm infrastructure
- Utilise basic maths skills for inventory management, feed calculations, and record keeping
- Apply knowledge of animal care standards to ensure compliance with welfare regulations
- Support the organisation of farm activities to maximise efficiency and productivity
Qualifications
No formal qualifications are necessary for the role, however any relevant qualifications would be looked upon favourably and any candidate who displays the skills and experience listed below will have a good chance of success.
- Proven experience in animal care and farm management roles
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and effectively
- Basic maths skills for inventory control and record keeping
- Knowledge of equipment repair techniques and maintenance routines
- Practical understanding of animal husbandry practices and welfare standards
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment

On-site accommodation comprising a 3 bedroom house with double glazing and central heating is available for the right candidate.
Pay: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
