Part-Time Drum Tutor

Anthem Music School is looking for a kind, patient and enthusiastic Drum Tutor to join our growing team.
We are not necessarily searching for the most technically advanced drummer in the world. We are looking for somebody who is brilliant with children, makes lessons fun and can help young musicians feel confident, comfortable and excited about learning.
Working Hours
The regular teaching hours are:
- Thursday: 4:00pm–8:00pm
- Saturday: 9:00am–3:00pm
The role will involve working across our Monton and Media City music schools.
There will also be opportunities to pick up approximately 4–8 additional hours of cover teaching per week, depending on availability and the needs of the school.
This is a part-time employed position, with a starting rate of £18–£20 per hour, depending on relevant experience - particularly experience teaching children in small groups. Your pay will be reviewed annually, with the opportunity to progress through our pay scale and earn up to £25 per hour as your experience, performance and responsibilities develop.
About the Role
Most of our students are children and young people, including many who are at the very beginning of their musical journey.
Your role will be to create lessons that children genuinely look forward to attending. You will help students learn drum skills, play the music they love and grow in confidence, both individually and as part of a group.
Our lessons are fun, practical and focused on contemporary music. We want students to experience the excitement of making music from their very first lessons rather than spending all their time working through technical exercises.
You will teach a mixture of small-group and individual lessons, working with students of different ages, personalities and abilities.
Responsibilities
- Delivering fun and engaging drum lessons to children and young people.
- Teaching both small-group and individual lessons.
- Adapting activities to suit different ages, abilities and learning styles.
- Helping beginners feel comfortable and successful during their first lessons.
- Supporting students as they prepare for performances, workshops and concerts.
- Planning lessons that balance musical development with enjoyment.
- Writing clear weekly lesson notes.
- Building positive relationships with students, parents and the wider Anthem team.
- Communicating reliably about student progress, absences and timetable changes.
- Providing cover teaching when available.
- Attending relevant training and team development sessions.

- Is willing to follow Anthem’s curriculum and approach while bringing their own personality to lessons.
- Enjoys being part of a supportive team.
- Wants to develop their teaching career as Anthem Music School continues to grow.
Previous group-teaching experience would be particularly valuable, but we are also interested in candidates who have the right personality, attitude and potential to become an excellent Anthem teacher.
Musical Experience
You should be a confident and experienced drummer with a strong understanding of rhythm, technique and contemporary popular music.
Formal qualifications are welcome but are not the most important part of this role. Your ability to connect with children, explain ideas clearly and create a positive learning environment will be central to your success.
Essential Requirements
- Experience playing the drums to a strong standard.
- Experience working with children or young people.
- The right to work in the UK.
- An Enhanced DBS certificate, or willingness to obtain one.
- The ability to travel reliably between Monton and Media City.
- Availability every Thursday evening and Saturday during the advertised hours.
