About the role
Our Balfour Beatty Highways business has a fantastic opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor to join our team on the Highways A66 NTP Scheme, this role will be based at Penrith, Cumbria
Balfour Beatty Highways maintain, manage, and operate major highway networks across the UK and support local authorities creating communities where people want to live work and play.
We provide high quality asset strategy, management, and planning consultancy services to a wide range of public and private sector customers. We provide specialist, reliable, sustainable, and creative advice for asset management planning and implementation in the UK. What you'll be doing
A number of years’ experience in managing all costs and income associated within their area of responsibility on building and civil engineering projects. May be managing less experienced commercial staff and will be supporting other more senior members in delivering the varied commercial duties as well as being responsible for procuring and managing our supply chain. Actively seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality for our customers.
Governance:
- Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company’s governance requirements (BMS & GMCEs)
Commercial Management and Administration:
- Use the company’s ERP and Digital Systems
- Orders information and systematically checks data
- Measure, record & value work unsupervised in accordance with appropriate rules and procedures
- Preparation of Cost reconciliation statements
- Measure & interpret works information, specifications & drawings and prepare Bills of Quantities and Schedules of rates.
- Build up estimates from first principle including net and gross estimates
- Measurement of works and agreements with subcontractors
- Review weekly, monthly, section programmes of works
- Plan commercial activities to meet requirements of section programmes
- Collation of Cost and Value Information
- Understanding of the Customer Contract and undertakes customer and stakeholder management for their area of responsibility
- Have an understanding of delay and disruption programmes
Procurement:
- Collect information required to specify procurement requirements
- Record and document information including registration of interest
- Understand the steps / documentation required
- Manage and Adjudicate Subcontract Enquiries
Who we're looking for
Essentials - The following qualifications or their equivalent are essential:
BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent knowledge
CSCS Card (Academically Qualified/Professional Qualified Person)
MRCIS/MCInstCES/MCIOB or working towards them
Experienced working for a Main Contractor or Regional Contractor
Experienced working on Highways Infrastructure Civil Engineering Schemes
