Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Primary Teacher/Tutor to deliver engaging Maths and English (including Creative Writing) lessons to children preparing for the 11+ entrance examinations.
The successful candidate should be confident teaching the primary curriculum up to Year 6 and able to explain concepts clearly, challenge more able pupils and support children who require additional guidance. Previous experience teaching the 11+ is desirable but not essential, as relevant training, guidance and resources will be provided.
You will teach children in small groups, helping them strengthen their academic foundations, develop effective problem-solving skills and grow in confidence.
Duties
- Deliver engaging, well-structured Maths and English lessons to pupils in Years 4 and/or 5 preparing for the 11+.
- Teach primary-level concepts confidently up to Year 6 standard.
- Support pupils in developing their mathematical reasoning, comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and writing skills.
- Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different abilities and learning needs within a small-group setting.
- Assess pupils’ understanding and provide clear, constructive feedback.
- Identify individual strengths and areas for improvement and provide appropriate support or additional challenge.
- Maintain a positive, encouraging and focused learning environment.
- Monitor pupils’ progress through classwork, homework and assessments.
- Communicate relevant feedback about pupils’ progress to the Centre Manager.
- Follow the programme structure and use the lesson materials and resources provided.
- Promote Teach & Coach Tutors’ coaching-led approach by developing pupils’ confidence, resilience and positive attitude towards learning.
- Follow all safeguarding, health and safety, and centre policies.
Requirements
- Experience teaching or tutoring children at primary level.
- Strong knowledge of Maths and English across the primary curriculum, including content up to Year 6.
- Confidence explaining concepts clearly and adapting explanations when pupils need additional support.
- Ability to challenge high-achieving pupils while supporting children of different abilities.
- Strong classroom and behaviour-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A patient, encouraging and enthusiastic approach to working with children.
- Reliability, professionalism and a commitment to pupils’ progress.
- A relevant teaching qualification or substantial primary teaching/tutoring experience.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Hold an active Enhanced DBS certificate
Previous 11+ teaching experience is welcomed but is not required. Training and guidance on our 11+ programme, teaching approach and resources will be provided.

Pay: £25.00-£30.00 per hour
