At The Coffee Cart Company, we're passionate about exceptional coffee, outstanding customer experiences and developing people who want to build a career with us.
For over 27 years we've been at the heart of Herefordshire's independent coffee scene. Today we operate multiple locations across the Herefordshire, including our flagship HQ Coffee Roastery, where we roast our own speciality coffee and continue to invest in innovation, training and our people.
As our business continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Senior Barista & Key Holder to join our Hereford team, working across our city centre locations.
This is a permanent position for someone who genuinely loves coffee, thrives in a busy environment and wants to become part of a company they can grow with for years to come.
This Role Isn't for Everyone...
We're not looking for someone who has occasionally made coffee.
We're looking for someone who can confidently step behind a commercial espresso machine, deliver exceptional drinks under pressure, lead a team and take pride in maintaining the highest standards every single day.
If you're searching for temporary work, seasonal employment or your first café role, this probably isn't the right opportunity.
If coffee is something you're genuinely passionate about and you're looking for a long-term career with a growing independent business, we'd love to hear from you.
The Role
As a Senior Barista & Key Holder you'll play a vital role in the day-to-day operation of our Hereford coffee shops.
You'll lead shifts, inspire your team, deliver consistently excellent coffee and take responsibility for opening and closing the business.
Working closely with our management team, you'll help maintain the standards that have built our reputation over nearly three decades.
What You'll Be Doing
- Producing consistently exceptional espresso-based coffee.
- Leading shifts with confidence and professionalism.
- Opening and closing the business.
- Supporting and developing fellow team members.
- Delivering outstanding customer service.
- Maintaining exceptional standards of cleanliness and presentation.
- Cash handling and end-of-day reconciliation.
- Supporting stock control and deliveries.
- Helping create a positive, energetic working environment.
- Acting as a role model for the wider team.
Essential Experience
To be successful in this role you'll need:
✔ At least 2 years' experience working as a barista in a busy café or speciality coffee environment.
✔ Confidence working on a traditional commercial espresso machine.
✔ The ability to dial in espresso and adjust grinders throughout service.
✔ Excellent milk steaming and latte art skills.
✔ Experience working under pressure while maintaining quality.
✔ Outstanding customer service and communication skills.
✔ The confidence to lead a team and make decisions.
✔ Flexibility to work weekdays and weekends across our Hereford locations.
Applications without genuine commercial barista experience are unlikely to be considered.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for mature, motivated people who genuinely want to build a future within our business.
People who:
- Care about quality.
- Take pride in their work.
- Lead by example.
- Stay calm under pressure.
- Support and encourage those around them.
- Want responsibility.
- Want to keep learning.
- Want to progress.
As part of our recruitment process, shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a practical coffee assessment. This allows you to showcase your barista skills and gives us the opportunity to see your passion, knowledge and approach to quality coffee in action.
