Role Purpose
The Lunchtime Cover Practitioner supports children during the busy lunchtime period, ensuring mealtimes are safe, positive, and sociable. This role also includes helping with transitions to rest or play, maintaining a calm and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and support children during mealtimes, encouraging healthy eating and good table manners.
- Assist with setting up and clearing away mealtime areas.
- Support children with feeding where required (self-feeding encouragement or assistance).
- Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of children at all times.
- Help settle children for naps or transition them to afternoon activities.
- Follow safeguarding, health, and hygiene procedures.
- Work collaboratively with other staff to ensure smooth running of the setting.
Person Specification
Essential
- Warm, caring, and patient approach with young children.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow guidance and routines from senior staff.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
Desirable
- Experience working with young children (formal or informal).
- Knowledge of food hygiene or willingness to undertake training.
