Jam Jar is an independent bar located on Osborne Road in Jesmond, serving quality food in a busy and vibrant environment. We are looking for an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead our kitchen operation and help drive our food offering forward.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated chef who enjoys working with fresh ideas, creating new dishes, and leading a team in a fast-paced kitchen. The successful candidate will have the freedom to contribute to seasonal specials, event menus, and annual menu development while maintaining high standards of food quality and consistency.
In addition to our restaurant operation, we also cater a range of events using our catering trailers, offering variety and additional opportunities for growth within the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day running of the kitchen
- Develop new dishes, specials, and menu concepts
- Ensure consistently high standards of food preparation and presentation
- Manage stock control, ordering, and food costs
- Maintain food safety, hygiene, and compliance standards
- Train, motivate, and support kitchen team members
- Run all sections of the kitchen confidently, including grill and pass
- Deliver efficient service during both busy and quieter periods
- Organising staff
The Ideal Candidate
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a senior chef or kitchen leadership role
- Strong organisational and leadership skills
- Experience with stock control and kitchen management
- Passion for creating and developing dishes
- Ability to perform under pressure in a busy service environment
- Excellent communication and people-management skills
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic

Working Hours

- 5 days out of 7
- Earliest start: 9:00am
- Latest finish: 10:30pm
- Weekend availability essential
