Help Learners Attend, Engage and Achieve
At London Learning Consortium (LLC/DV8), we believe education transforms lives. As an Ofsted-rated Good specialist post-16 college operating across London, Brighton and Bexhill, we deliver personalised, industry-led programmes for young people who thrive through creative, practical and inclusive learning.
We are seeking an approachable, resilient and highly organised Attendance and Engagement Officer to join our Bexhill team. This varied role will help learners overcome barriers to attendance and participation, coordinate appropriate pastoral interventions and provide a welcoming point of contact for learners, families and external partners.
Working closely with curriculum, safeguarding and centre colleagues, you will combine proactive attendance casework with practical learner support, accurate record keeping and effective communication.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Promote high expectations for learner attendance and punctuality.
- Monitor attendance, follow up absences promptly and maintain accurate records of all communication and intervention.
- Manage an agreed caseload, working with learners, parents or carers and external agencies to address barriers to participation.
- Develop and review attendance action plans in partnership with learners and teaching teams.
- Provide one-to-one and small-group pastoral and welfare support, escalating concerns appropriately.
- Support safeguarding practice through accurate recording, timely reporting and appropriate referrals under the direction of the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Develop links with local services and coordinate specialist support for learners where appropriate.
- Contribute to personal and social development activity, Student Voice and learner engagement initiatives.
- Help learners access bursaries, free school meals, careers information and progression support.
- Provide front-of-house and enrolment support and, where required, supervise learning activities during staff absence.
- Work collaboratively with curriculum, admissions, marketing and centre-management colleagues to support the effective operation of the campus.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience working with young people in a pastoral, attendance, engagement, youth work or education setting.
- Experience delivering supportive interventions that improve attendance, participation or learner wellbeing.
- Strong administrative and IT skills, with the ability to maintain accurate and confidential records.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and confidence engaging learners, families and external professionals.
- A practical, calm and solution-focused approach, with the ability to work independently and use initiative.
- GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent, together with qualifications up to at least Level 3.
- An understanding of safeguarding, child protection, equality, data protection and professional boundaries.
- Experience within post-16 education, knowledge of local support services, or a relevant youth work, CEIAG or safeguarding qualification would be advantageous.
The Person
- Approachable, empathetic and committed to the needs of young people.
- Dependable, adaptable and resilient in a busy learner-facing environment.
- An effective listener who can build trust while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
- Committed to inclusive practice, continuous development and positive learner outcomes.
