Retail Supervisor - Percy Throwers Garden Centre
Are you passionate about retail and great customer service? We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Retail Supervisor to support and drive the success of our Hardy Plants Department at Percy Thrower’s Garden Centre.
Location: Percy Thrower’s Garden Centre
Hours: Full time, 40 hours per week, including alternate weekend working
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
The Role
This is a hands-on and varied supervisory role within our Hardy Plants Department. You will play a key part in ensuring the department is commercially successful, well-stocked, visually appealing, and operating to the highest retail standards. You will support the Department Manager in driving sales, analysing reports, managing stock levels, and leading the team on the shop floor.
The ideal candidate will have strong retail supervisory experience, be commercially minded, confident working with reports and invoices, and physically fit due to the manual nature of the role. While an interest in plants and gardening is beneficial, strong retail and stock management skills are the priority.
Key Responsibilities
- Ordering hardy plant stock and monitoring availability
- Reviewing sales, stock, and performance reports to identify opportunities for growth and improve commercial performance
- Managing merchandising plans and stock rotation strategies
- Identifying and taking action on slow-moving stock lines
- Checking and processing invoices accurately
- Ensuring POS materials are accurate and displayed correctly
- Maintaining high retail, housekeeping, and health & safety standards across the department
- Creating visually appealing displays to maximise sales
- Delivering excellent customer service and assisting customers with carry-to-car service where required
- Using the EPOS system confidently and accurately
- Following up on action points from reports and team floor walks
- Supporting with stock movement, lifting, and replenishment duties as part of the day-to-day operation
Deputy Responsibilities
- Deputising for the Department Manager during holidays and days off
- Organising daily and weekly team tasks
- Communicating updates, instructions, and guidelines from the wider management team
- Escalating issues or concerns to senior management where appropriate
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in retail supervision or retail management
- Commercially aware and confident analysing reports and sales data
- Experienced in stock control, merchandising, and invoice checking
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual handling and stock movement
- Professional, organised, and customer-focused
- A confident team leader who can motivate and support others
- Flexible and able to work alternate weekends
- Interested in plants and gardening, although extensive plant knowledge is not essential
