Job Title: Strategic Communications Officer
Salary: The starting salary is £21,736, which includes allowances totalling £1,805.
The salary is broken down as £19,931 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £21,324. Plus, a location allowance of £1,205 and a non-pensionable allowance of £600.
Location: New Scotland Yard, Westminster. You may be expected to work at other Met buildings across London as part of a blended working agreement. There are also some opportunities for remote working when appropriate.

The Metropolitan Police Service is transforming how it communicates, creating a more innovative, engaging and effective approach to reaching both its workforce and the public. We are looking for a creative, motivated and curious communicator to join our Strategic Communications team.
As a Strategic Communications Officer, you will support communications for key organisational priorities, pan-London operational activity and major corporate events. Working alongside experienced communications professionals, you will help turn complex issues into clear, engaging messaging that builds understanding, confidence and trust. Your work will help officers and staff understand organisational priorities, feel connected to the Met’s purpose and take pride in the role they play in policing London. At the same time, you will help Londoners better understand the work of the Met, supporting transparency, trust and confidence in policing.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to develop their communications career and gain experience across strategic communications, campaigns, events and engagement activity. You should have strong writing skills, an eye for detail and experience creating content and supporting communications projects.
You'll have the opportunity to work with colleagues across the Communication & Engagement function and the wider organisation, developing your skills while contributing to high-profile communications activity.
Work Pattern
The standard working pattern will be 21.6 hours a week, three days a week. One of the key deliverables of this role will be supporting on high-profile events, which may require early and late starts. Any requirement to do this will be detailed in advance and will carry overtime and/or unsociable hours payments.

Experience supporting the planning, coordination and delivery of events, ensuring activity is delivered effectively and to agreed deadlines.
Experience creating communications products and materials, including toolkits, event content, presentations or audience-facing communications.
Ability to translate complex, technical or sensitive information into clear, accurate and engaging content.
Experience supporting the development and delivery of communication campaigns, including the use of audience insight, planning, implementation and evaluation.

Strong written communication skills, including excellent spelling, grammar, proofreading and attention to detail.

Educated to degree level in journalism, marketing, communications or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
