Centre Operator – Tuition Centre (Mile End E3 4TU)
Location: Mile End Centre, 9 Burdett Road, London, E3 4TU
This role is about centre stability — taking real ownership of the day-to-day, from parent and student enquiries to tutor coordination and class scheduling. We're looking for someone who stays calm under pressure, takes real ownership, and wants to grow with the business over time — this role gets busy, and we want someone who's energised by that, not worn down by it.
Hours
Part-time or full-time, depending on the candidate — we're open to either, and will offer full-time to the right person if they're a strong fit. Days and shift patterns are agreed and fixed once set, based on centre needs. Shifts are approx. 7 hours; weekday/weekend or mixed availability required.
Pay & Progression
- Minimum wage during probation, rising to £13 per hour on successful completion
- Reviewed annually alongside performance
- Sales bonus per enrolment (details discussed at interview)
- A genuine pathway to Centre Manager within 18 months, based on performance and commitment to progressing
Key Responsibilities
- Handling the day-to-day flow of enquiries — phone, email, social media, and walk-ins — and following up on trials to convert them into enrolments
- Managing reception during busy periods, including multiple parents and queries at once
- Building and maintaining strong, ongoing relationships with parents, tutors, and visitors
- Handling parent queries and concerns directly, resolving issues calmly and professionally before they escalate
- Acting as the day-to-day point of contact for tutors — arranging cover for absences, approving day-off requests, and coordinating scheduling changes — while flagging any performance concerns to the Centre Manager
- Managing payments and invoicing for families using our internal platform
- Screening tutor applications at the initial stage and arranging interviews for approved applicants
- Maintaining accurate records for students and tutors, including system profiles and timesheets
- Enrolling new students onto tuition classes
- Handling correspondence and admin support tasks as needed
- Supporting social media and marketing tasks
- Working closely with the Centre Manager and directors, taking on delegated tasks
Full training is provided for all responsibilities listed above.
What We're Looking For
We care more about mindset and ability than a long list of experience — something we'll assess at interview. The traits that matter most:
- Calm and capable under pressure — this role gets busy, and staying organised through it matters more than anything on paper
- Confident handling enquiries and conversations, including difficult ones
- Genuine ownership — treats the centre's day-to-day running as their responsibility
- Coachable — open to feedback and genuinely motivated to grow into the role and beyond
- Strong interpersonal and customer service instincts
Qualifications
- GCSEs or equivalent required
- Prior sales, customer service, or admin experience is an advantage, but not essential
