We're looking for an experienced Advanced Biomedical Scientist with demonstrable competence in specimen dissection to join our Histology team at HCA’s Cyted Laboratories in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. This is an opportunity to take a leading role in the development of dissection services within a modern, digitally enabled histopathology laboratory, working alongside Consultant Pathologists to deliver high-quality diagnostic services.
This is a role where your expertise is recognised and your judgement is trusted. The team is stable, experienced, and focused on delivering consistently high standards, with an environment that supports both professional pride and day-to-day balance. As the laboratory's lead practitioner for specimen dissection, you will provide professional and technical leadership for the dissection service, driving quality, efficiency, training, and service development.
Working closely with Consultant Pathologists and senior laboratory colleagues, you will act as the laboratory's subject matter expert for specimen dissection. You will continually enhance practice, support colleagues and help to expand the scope of biomedical scientist-led specimen examination.
With predictable weekday working and a strong focus on quality rather than constant capacity pressure, you’ll have the space to develop your practice, support others, and contribute to meaningful service improvements in a collaborative and supportive environment.
This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced practitioner to shape the future direction of specimen dissection within a growing histopathology service, with genuine opportunities to influence practice, develop others and contribute to service innovation.
At HCA UK we care about what you care about. We care that you want to deliver the very best care. We care that you want a career you can be proud of. We care that you want working conditions that support your health and wellbeing. Let us care for you and your career, the same way you do for others.
What you’ll do:
-
Help to define the strategic direction of the dissection section including training, evaluation of new equipment and implementation of processes that drive continuous improvement
-
Undertake routine and complex histological work, with a focus on high-quality tissue dissection
-
Provide technical leadership for dissection, supporting consistency and best practice across the laboratory
-
Manage laboratory resources to ensure continuity of service
-
Contribute to the day-to-day organisation and performance of the Histopathology department, supporting turnaround times and quality standards
-
Support training, development, and competency assessment within the team
What you’ll bring:
-
HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
-
Experience working in an ISO 15189 accredited Histology laboratory
-
Demonstrable competence in specimen dissection, including Categories A-C as a minimum, with experience of Categories D and E desirable.
-
Strong ability to work independently while supporting team performance
-
A proactive approach to quality improvement and service development
-
Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection (or equivalent specialist qualification) is desirable. Support will be provided for candidates wishing to complete this qualification.
