Role: Pharmacy Assistant with Dispensing Duties
NOTE: This role is for local UK applicants only. The role will not provide any Work Permit, and will need someone with UK settled status.
Location: Wellbeing Pharmacy - Blackfields Branch
Typical Weekly Rota
From 30 hours per week minimum
Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - 9am to 6pm (excludes 1 hour unpaid break) -- 24 hrs
Flexible Tuesday (or Friday when required) 9am to 3pm -- 6 hours
Occassional Saturday cover when colleague are on holidays
The role cannot accommodate or home-working as this will always be an onsite work.
JOB FOCUS
The role requires Counter Assistant responsibilities including but not limited to serving pharmacy customers requiring OTC or dispensed medication, catching and referring NHS and private services for the pharmacist and other trained colleagues, and supporting the dispenser and retail operation when quite as per team instruction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage waiting patient expectation and queue control
- Retail stock display, keeping stock presentable and stock items ordered or listed for ordering, implementing sales promotion, and booking in delivered stock. Also ensuring shelf-edge information including price details are correct or up-to-date.
- Supervised handing out prescriptions and referring queries to trained colleagues and the pharmacist
- Supervised sales of retail and OTC medication under supervision from trained colleagues, and using professional judgment to refer to more trained colleagues.
- Handling cash and card payments including for NHS prescription charge with the public, as well as end-of-day and end-of-week report or consolidation.
- Support the dispensing of medicines following pharmacy SOP and under supervision of a trained and/or qualified colleague.
- Perform general hygiene and infection control as per SOP ensuring the front of shop is presentable for customers.
- Undertaking training on health and safety, customers services, and counter assistant information including medicines handling and drug specifications.
- Answering the telephone from customers and other health or social care professionals ensuring to refer to trained colleagues issues outside your level of competency.
- Ensuring safe handling of spoken and printed confidential information or data, and maintaining discretion and respect to all customers and patients.
- Keeping to Wellbeing Pharmacy standard operating procedures and rules set by the NHS and other UK government regulations.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. UK Pharmacy Assistant or Counter Assistant Qualification or part-way into training.
2. Without a pharmacy qualification, we will accept local (UK only) applicants with strong retail and/or customer services experience, plus a healthcare or care home medicines management experience.
3. Effective communication skills to match local language style and manner of speaking with proven track record of handling high customer demand, and managing in-person customer problem solving skills.
4. Local level product knowledge of UK pharmacy retail items, and ability to remember hundreds of product lines related to retail work. (identified through interview).
5. Ability to operated various computer devices and smart screen technologies.
