Job Purpose
To deliver safe, engaging, and high-quality climbing instruction and coaching sessions to individuals and groups of varying ages and abilities. The instructor will ensure compliance with industry safety standards, promote participation, and provide excellent customer service while maintaining climbing facilities and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction and Coaching
- Plan and deliver climbing sessions for beginners, and adult participants.
- Teach climbing techniques, and climbing safety procedures.
- Assess participant ability levels and adapt instruction accordingly.
- Encourage participant development, confidence, and enjoyment of climbing activities.
- Lead taster sessions, courses, and supervised climbing activities.
Safety and Risk Management
- Operate in accordance with CWI (Climbing Wall Instructor) standards and current climbing industry best practices.
- Conduct safety briefings and equipment checks before each session.
- Monitor participants continuously to ensure safe climbing practices.
- Implement emergency procedures when required.
- Complete risk assessments and incident/accident reports as necessary.
Equipment and Facility Management
- Inspect, maintain, and correctly store climbing equipment.
- Report defective equipment or facility issues promptly.
- Assist with routine climbing wall inspections and maintenance.
- Ensure climbing areas remain clean, safe, and well-organised.
Customer Service
- Provide a welcoming and professional experience for all customers.
- Build positive relationships with participants, parents, schools, and group leaders.
- Promote climbing activities, courses, and memberships where appropriate.
- Handle customer enquiries professionally and efficiently.
Administration
- Maintain accurate session records and participant information.
- Complete required operational paperwork and safety documentation.
