The job
We fit loft ladders, boarding, hatches and insulation for homeowners across the Home Counties. The work is steady; you're indoors, out of the weather, and you go to a booked job rather than waiting around on a building site for other trades to finish. You work on your own or with a mate, and once the job's done, you're done for the day.
We're growing and need another fitter to join the team.
Home Counties Loft Ladders has been trading for 8 years, with a team of 25 across the business. We're proud of our reputation, 1,500+ five-star reviews and a fully DBS-checked crew. We're looking for someone who takes the same pride in their work.
Had enough of self-employed life?
If you've been self-employed, you'll know the pattern. Good money one month, next to nothing the month after. Chasing people for payments. Sorting your own tax and worrying whether you've put enough aside. Driving long distances for work, sometimes staying away from home overnight, and missing the kids' bedtime because you're still on the road.
A good number of our fitters came to us from exactly that situation, and it's why they stayed. If that sounds familiar, here's what changes.
What you get
- Steady, reliable wage. Paid on time, every time. No chasing invoices, no thin months.
- Early start, early finish. You're in at the yard for 7am and with your first customer for 8am. Most days, you're finished by early to mid-afternoon, though occasionally a job runs on longer. It's a different pace to site work.
- Local jobs, up to 1.5 hours drive time. Home every night. No long-distance travel and no staying away from home.
- Nearly 10 years trading and a genuinely good reputation. You'd be joining an established, well-regarded local business, not a new outfit still finding its feet.
- Work indoors, all year round. No standing out in the rain or cold.
- Regular hours. 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday, with weekend work available if you want the extra money.
- A fully expensed company van. No insurance, tax, MOT or repair bills to find yourself. It's for work use, not for personal use outside the job.
- Materials and uniform provided.
- A tool finance scheme, if you need help building up your kit and want to spread the cost.
- Pension and 28 days paid holiday. Proper employment with the protections that self-employed work doesn't give you.
- An experienced team around you. You won't be figuring things out on your own.
What we're looking for
- NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry & Joinery, or a few years of doing the job for real
- Your own tools, or if you're still building your kit up, ask us about the tool finance scheme
- A full manual driving licence
- You'll need to live within about 30 minutes of Hemel Hempstead
- Someone reliable, who turns up on time, does a good job, and is someone a customer is happy to have in their house
If you haven't worked in lofts specifically, that's not a dealbreaker. We'll teach you the loft-specific side of things.
