What you'll be doing
You won’t just be handing out worksheets all day
- Supporting pupils directly with their learning
- Preparing fun and engaging classroom resources
- Encouraging participation, supporting behaviour or simply being the consistent, positive adult that a child needs in order to engage with their education.
- PRUs – working with young people who’ve been excluded or need a different kind of environment to get back on track.
- Residential schools – offering consistency to children who live on site and don’t get to “leave it all at the gate”.
- SEMH schools – supporting children whose behaviour usually comes from what’s going on underneath.
- Learning hubs – smaller, more nurturing environments for pupils who can’t cope in big, busy classrooms.
You do not need school experience, we believe this role could be particularly well suited to someone who has experience as a tutor, mentor, youth worker, childcare practitioner, support worker, nurse, sports coach or in another role where resilience, patience and strong interpersonal skills are essential.

The setting works with children and young people who have struggled to cope within a mainstream school environment. The specialist hubs provide a more individualised approach, creating bespoke programmes designed around the needs, interests and abilities of each child. For these children, you might be:
- The first adult who doesn’t give up on them after a bad day
- The person who makes school feel slightly more fun
- THE DIFFERENCE – the reason they come in with a smile on their face
Some days wont always go the way you planned, but when they do, and everything happens just as you’ve dreamt it. Theres no feeling quite like it.
