With a strong commitment to quality, safety, sustainability, and continuous improvement, we are seeking an experienced Quality & Compliance Manager to oversee and drive compliance standards whilst supporting operational excellence across our manufacturing facility.
The Role
As a Quality & Compliance Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the organisation's quality management and compliance systems. The role ensures that products and business processes meet regulatory requirements, industry standards, customer expectations, and company policies. The post holder will drive continuous improvement initiatives, manage audits, monitor compliance risks, and promote a culture of quality throughout the organisation. Working closely with quality and production teams, you will identify quality issues, support corrective actions, and help maintain the highest standards of product quality throughout the manufacturing process.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in line with BRCGS Packaging standard.
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and customer requirements.
- Monitor quality performance through KPIs, audits, inspections, and reporting.
- Investigate all quality issues and lead root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Maintain quality documentation, procedures, and records.
- Ensure organisational compliance with applicable UK legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
- Develop and implement compliance policies, procedures, and controls.
- Conduct compliance risk assessments and recommend mitigation measures.
- Maintain compliance registers and reporting systems.
- Support management in responding to regulatory inspections and enquiries.
- Plan and conduct internal audits. Lead external audits and regulatory inspections.
- Track audit findings and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
- Deliver quality and compliance training across the organisation.
- Promote awareness of quality standards and compliance obligations.
- Work closely with operational teams to embed quality standards.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, regulators, and certification bodies.
- Prepare reports and present findings to senior leadership teams.
- Escalate issues in a timely manner to the Compliance Director and/or Factory Manager.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
Essential
- Previous experience in a food packaging manufacturing environment, understanding of BRCGS and compliance.
- Understanding of risk management and compliance frameworks.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Experience managing people whilst overseeing their daily activities, development and progression.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management software.
- Ability to engage with and train quality and production employees.
- Strong ethical standards and integrity with a proactive and solutions-focused approach.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- High attention to detail and the ability to identify defects and quality issues.
- Experience using measuring equipment such as callipers, gauges, and weighing scales.
- Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
Highly Desirable
- Internal Quality Auditor training and experience with managing external audits.
- Previous experience and/or qualification in Quality Management, Business Management, Engineering, Compliance, or a related field.
- Professional quality or compliance qualification (e.g., ISO Lead Auditor, CQI, IRCA, or equivalent) desirable.
- Proven experience in a quality, compliance, governance, or risk management role.
- Experience managing Quality Management Systems.
- Strong understanding of UK regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Experience implementing continuous improvement programmes.
- Understanding of food-contact packaging requirements.
- Knowledge of root cause analysis and continuous improvement techniques.
