Job Overview
We are looking for a hardworking, reliable, and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join the catering team at Mapleton Court Care Home. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a busy kitchen environment and takes pride in supporting the preparation and delivery of nutritious meals for our residents.
Working alongside the Cook and Kitchen Team, you will help maintain excellent food hygiene standards, support meal preparation and service, and ensure the kitchen remains clean, organised, and compliant with food safety legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation and serving of meals in line with residents' individual dietary needs and preferences.
- Support the kitchen team with food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, portioning, and plating food.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen, dining areas, and food storage areas.
- Wash crockery, utensils, and kitchen equipment, ensuring they are cleaned and stored correctly.
- Follow all food safety, infection prevention and control, and Health & Safety procedures.
- Assist with receiving, checking, and storing food deliveries, ensuring stock is rotated correctly.
- Report low stock levels or damaged goods to the Cook or Kitchen Lead.
- Support catering requirements for special events, celebrations, and themed activities within the home.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to provide an efficient, friendly, and professional catering service.
- Promote a positive dining experience that supports residents' wellbeing and nutritional needs.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Previous experience within a kitchen, catering, hospitality, or restaurant environment is desirable but not essential.
- An understanding of basic food preparation techniques.
- Knowledge of food hygiene and food safety practices (Food Hygiene Certificate required).
- A commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and infection prevention.
- The ability to work as part of a team while also using their own initiative.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- A caring, respectful, and professional approach when interacting with residents, visitors, and colleagues.
- A willingness to undertake training and develop within the role.
