Job Description:
Sexual Health Outreach Worker:
● To provide HIV testing by conducting finger prick instant testing to targeted audiences.
● To achieve a target of at least 10 HIV tests on a weekly basis.
● Building relationships with existing and potential venues where HIV testing can be carried out. Venues include schools and colleges, GPs and pharmacies, religious settings, local community centres, leisure centres and gyms, libraries, bars, pubs, nightclubs, saunas, residential settings, homeless shelters, charitable settings, and others.
● Identifying new venues for HIV testing and arranging testing sessions.
● To work towards identifying groups and individuals who may be at risk of HIV.
● Minimum of 3.5 hours fortnightly allocated to early evening testing.
● Arrange HIV testing at venues in advance of attendance and promote service through marketing material (e.g posters, leaflets, social media) and liaising with venue staff.
● Accurate diary and appointment management.
● Partnership working with local authorities, health organisations and GUM.
● To collect data related to HIV testing (e.g consent record) and other data necessary for the project.
● To provide safe sex information, and offer condoms and lubrication during each test.
● To co-ordinate and promote local and national HIV prevention campaigns.
Group Facilitator:
● To facilitate an LGBTQ+ Group for over 18’s (already in place) by being in attendance at group meetings
● Plan for the group by completing group plans, including information such as activities and speakers.
● Create monthly newsletter for the group.
● To work with members of the LGBTQ+ group to identify when they may need extra support such as counselling or advice work.
● To collect data related to group attendance.
Other:
● To use the What? Centre’s evaluation systems.
● To work closely with members of the team, project co-ordinator, and the CEO of the What? Centre to ensure smooth running of the project.
● Other roles identified as being commensurate with the job role.
Experience
● Good knowledge of sexual health
● Experience of organising and delivering group sessions
● Experience of working with vulnerable young people and adults
● Strong understanding of mental health and safeguarding
● Ability to represent BeeHIVe and the What? Centre in a professional manner
● HIV/sexual health work or relevant
Qualifications
● GCSE (or equivalent) at Grade C (or above) in English Language.
● Level 3 (or above) qualification in Health & Social Care (or relevant), or demonstrable relevant experience for the role.
Personal Specification
● Full driving license (required)
● Requires a full enhanced DBS
● Experience of HIV testing (desirable – training can be provided)
● A good knowledge of HIV, prevention, and sexual health
● Excellent groupwork skills
● Experience of data collection and spreadsheets
● The person will report to the project coordinator
Pay: £12.90 per hour
