Overview
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Pastry Chef to join our lovely bakery team in Sawston, just south of Cambridge.
The ideal candidate will have experience working producing Viennoiserie in particular laminated pastry. This role requires a keen eye for detail, creativity, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety and quality in a fast paced, growing business.
At SmallTown we pride ourselves on producing high quality Sourdough, Pastries and Sweet Bakes for our own cafes and our select few Wholesale customers.
Hours - Monday - Sunday - 2:30am - 10:30am - Weekend working is required with days off negotiated within the team.
Responsibilities
- Working with the pastry team to produce our range of laminated pastries for our own cafes and our Wholesale customers.
- Assist in the development of new recipes or refining our existing recipes.
- Ensure all food preparation areas are clean, organised, and compliant with food safety regulations.
- Monitor inventory levels of baking supplies and ingredients, placing orders as necessary to maintain stock.
- Maintain equipment and tools in good working condition, reporting any issues promptly.
- Help in training new staff where required.
Requirements
- Proven experience working in an artisan bakery producing Viennoiserie or in a similar role within a restaurant.
- Strong knowledge of culinary techniques related to baking and pastry production.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices in the kitchen.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- A passion for creating high-quality pastries and desserts that delight customers.
- Culinary qualifications or certifications are advantageous but not essential.
The ability to commute to drive to work will be required.
Level of pay starts at 13/hr is dependent on experience.
