Over the last 20 years spinal surgery has become an important part of the treatment of spinal cord injured patients at the National Spinal Cord Injuries Centre where the overall management of acute cases is undertaken by specialised spinal rehabilitation consultants. Spinal surgery in these cases is highly complex and often performed as dual consultant. Late reconstructive surgery following trauma, paralytic scoliosis and charcot spine are some examples. NSIC is the only centre that treats children and are World leaders in the management of spinal cord injury in this age range.
The Fellow will be involved in the daytime on-call spinal rota with back-up of a Consultant. There is no formal out-of-hours commitment.
