About the Role
NSS is looking for a Trainee IT / Data Cabling Engineer to join our growing team across the North West of England.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start a career in IT, networking and structured cabling. No previous cabling experience is required — we're looking for someone who is reliable, practical, hardworking and genuinely willing to learn.
You will work alongside experienced engineers and gain hands-on experience across a range of commercial IT and structured cabling projects.
What You'll Be Doing
Assisting experienced engineers with structured data cabling installations
Installing CAT5e, CAT6 and CAT6A cabling
Cable pulling, routing and containment installation
Terminating data outlets and patch panels
Basic cable testing and fault finding
Assisting with fibre and network infrastructure installations
Working on customer sites across the North West and occasionally further afield
Maintaining a clean, safe and professional working environment
Learning industry standards, installation techniques and testing procedures
What We're Looking For
No previous experience is required — full training will be provided.
We are looking for someone who:

Has a good practical attitude and enjoys working with their hands
Is reliable, punctual and hardworking
Can follow instructions and work as part of a team
Has good communication skills
Takes pride in their work
Is comfortable working on ladders and at height when required
Is willing to travel to different customer sites
Holds a full UK driving licence
Any experience in IT, electrical work, construction, networking, telecoms or other practical trades would be advantageous but is not essential.

This role would suit someone who may have recently left college, is looking for their first opportunity in the IT/networking industry, or is currently working in another trade and wants to move into structured cabling and IT infrastructure.
You don't need to know everything — you just need the right attitude and willingness to learn.
