Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled and motivated HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) Mechanic to look after our small fleet of vehicles.
Hours and pay negotiable
must be interested in hydraulic systems and plant machinery.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of HGVs to identify mechanical, electrical, and structural issues using schematics and diagnostic tools
- Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and other vehicle components
- Solder electrical connections and interpret electrical schematics to troubleshoot wiring and electronic systems
- Fabricate custom parts or modifications as needed to enhance vehicle performance or repair existing damage
- Maintain detailed records of all repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used for each vehicle
- Assist with the assembly and disassembly of vehicle components during repairs or upgrades
- Operate heavy machinery such as excavators or forklifts safely during maintenance tasks while adhering to safety protocols
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with drivers and team members regarding repair status and vehicle readiness
- Support routine preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend vehicle lifespan
- Handle heavy lifting tasks safely when moving or installing large parts or equipment
Qualifications
- Proven experience in mechanical repair with a strong understanding of heavy vehicles such as trucks or excavators
- Proficiency in welding, fabrication, soldering, and working with schematics for electrical systems
- Hands-on experience with electrical troubleshooting and repairs on heavy machinery
- Knowledge of mechanical systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension components, and hydraulic systems
- Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication tools effectively and safely
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and work in physically demanding environments
- Familiarity with equipment repair procedures for machinery like excavators or tippers
Pay: £18.00 per hour
