Intermediate Mechanical Quantity Surveyor (2-4 years’ experience)

A leading UK contractor is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Quantity Surveyor to join their growing Commercial Fit-Out team. This is an excellent opportunity for a QS with 2-4 years’ post-graduate experience who has gained exposure to mechanical services (HVAC, plumbing, ductwork) and wants to develop their career on high-profile CAT A and CAT B projects across London and Surrey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain cost estimates, budgets, and monthly financial reports for mechanical packages
- Assist with procurement, subcontractor tendering, and supplier negotiations
- Carry out interim valuations, variations, change orders, and contribute to final account settlements
- Support the Senior QS / Commercial Manager in cost control and forecasting
- Attend site meetings and work closely with project managers, site teams, and mechanical subcontractors
- Undertake risk assessments, value engineering exercises, and cost benchmarking
- Ensure all commercial processes comply with contract conditions, JCT/NEC forms, and industry regulations
Requirements:
- 2-4 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally with exposure to mechanical services (HVAC, plumbing, ductwork, or M&E)
- Good working knowledge of commercial fit-out or building services projects
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, Construction, or equivalent
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail
- Good communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
