Build your management career with a newly launched Newcastle restaurant
Our client has spent the last decade growing a respected restaurant brand across major UK cities, and has now opened its doors in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is a genuine opportunity to join a new operation early, while the local leadership team is still being shaped, and to grow into a manager as the venue establishes itself in the city.
To set the standard from the very first service, seven experienced team members from established locations around the country have come to Newcastle to lead the opening and embed the culture. The next step is to bring through local talent who understand the city and its guests, and who want to become part of the venue's long term leadership. If you have solid hospitality experience behind you and you are ready to move beyond a supervisor role into real management development, this is a serious place to do it.
The opportunity
This is not another supervisor position with a management sounding title. As a Junior Assistant Manager you will start by supporting service and leading sections, then progressively take on shifts, people development, guest resolution and the operational side of running a busy restaurant. You will learn how covers, labour, stock and sales actually connect, and how strong decisions on the floor affect the performance of the whole business.
The company develops its managers internally. There is no fixed promotion timeline, but people who show sound judgement, leadership and a real grasp of how the restaurant operates are given more responsibility as they earn it. The progression here is credible because it is based on capability, not a script.
What you will be doing
- Supporting the Assistant Manager, Restaurant Manager and General Manager with the daily running of the restaurant
- Helping lead front of house service through busy periods and running sections or full shifts as your capability grows
- Leading pre service briefings when required and keeping standards consistent from the first table to the last
- Monitoring the guest experience closely and spotting potential problems before they escalate
- Handling customer concerns calmly and professionally, and putting things right
- Supporting the training and development of new team members, giving clear direction and honest feedback
- Keeping front of house and back of house communicating well throughout service
- Supporting opening and closing procedures, cash handling and end of shift processes
- Maintaining food safety, hygiene, health and safety and licensing standards across the venue
- Supporting stock control, reducing avoidable waste and learning how staffing and labour costs affect the numbers
- Understanding bookings, covers and table flow so the room runs smoothly at peak times
- Leading from the floor by example rather than managing from the sidelines
What we are looking for
- Experience in restaurants, bars, hotels, premium hospitality, events or another busy customer facing environment
- Some experience taking responsibility during a shift, mentoring colleagues or leading others, which is strongly preferred
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build good working relationships across a team
- The organisation to stay professional and clear headed when service gets busy
- High standards of service and a genuine eye for detail
- The judgement to make sensible practical decisions when problems arise
- A real interest in developing into restaurant management
- Reliable full time availability for a permanent hospitality rota
You do not need a degree, and you do not need to have held an Assistant Manager title before. If you have strong hospitality foundations and some evidence of leadership or responsibility, whether as a Restaurant Supervisor, Floor Supervisor, Shift Leader, Team Leader, Head Waiter or Senior Waiter, this is a natural next step. This is a full time role for someone building a long term career in restaurant operations, so you will need to commit to a permanent full time rota.
Pay and development
Starting salary: £27,500.
Following successful completion of the three month probation period, there will be a formal salary review, with the potential to rise to up to £29,000 depending on your performance, capability and the level of responsibility you are able to manage independently. This is a review rather than an automatic increase. On top of your salary you will receive personal tips and a share of applicable service charges.
Beyond pay, the real value here is the development. You will work directly alongside experienced hospitality leaders from established UK venues, gain hands on management training, and build genuine breadth across restaurant operations rather than staying limited to floor supervision. As the Newcastle operation grows, so do the internal opportunities for people who prove themselves.
The team and the culture
This is a high performing environment where people take pride in the standard of what they deliver. The team is professional, social and supportive, commercially minded and firmly focused on the guest. It moves quickly, everyone is accountable for their part, and the people who do well here enjoy being trusted with responsibility and working around others who are equally capable and ambitious.
