Job Title: Nursery Team Leader
Salary: Dependant on age, experience and qualifications
Hours: 40 hours
Responsible to: Nursery Manager
Responsible for: Nursery assistants and trainees where applicable
Purpose of post
- Ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for all children in the nursery
- Support and supervise the nursery assistants and other team members within the nursery
- Work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play, learn and develop
- Ensure a safe, secure and hygienic environment and maintain company standards, policies and procedures
- Promote the high profile and reputation of the business at all times
Main duties
- Support staff to formulate and operate a programme of activities that meets the individual needs and interests of children in your care and in conjunction with other team members and the Manager
- Check your own and your team members key children learning journeys. Share this information with the relevant parents, carers and other key adults in the child’s life and institute reviews for parents, in conjunction with the Manager
- Support all team members with the early identification and intervention for children with possible special needs and give physical, emotional, intellectual guidance as appropriate
- Support all staff to engage in good team working and delegate daily duties using a fair rota system.
- Liaise with and support parents and other family members
- Support staff members with Parent Partnerships
- In conjunction with the Manager, liaise with the local authority and other professionals associated with the nursery
- Be involved in out of working hour’s activities, e.g. training, regular staff meetings, fundraising events etc.
- Undertake domestic jobs within the nursery, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleansing of equipment and general cleaning duties and responsibilities as determined by the Manager
- Participate in and, where appropriate, lead training programmes for junior staff, students (i.e. placements and volunteers) giving guidance and support
- Work alongside the Manager and staff team to ensure that the nursery philosophy is fulfilled
- Read, understand and adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to your role as deemed appropriate by the Manager. Support team members to do the same and ensure all policies and procedures are followed
- Support staff to ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times and be responsible for the health and safety standards appropriate for the needs of young children, other staff members and visitors
- Record accidents/incidents in on our accident/incident forms and ensure the Manager authorises / endorses the entries and liaises with the relevant parents / carers
· Ensure that the children are only released into the care of authorised parents or carers upon collection adhering to the nursery procedures at all times.
· Listening to young children may lead to some children sharing serious concerns. Staff are expected to listen and respond appropriately to any concerning information regarding Safeguarding and report to the appropriate person/agency.
· Our nursery has a clear commitment to protecting children and promoting welfare. Should anyone believe that this policy is not being upheld, it is their duty to report the matter to the attention of the Nursery Manager/appropriate agency
· Respect the confidentiality of all information received in line with the Data Protection And Confidentiality policy.
Specific childcare tasks
- Support and facilitate the preparation and completion of activities to suit each individual child's stage of development and interests
- Support and assist all staff to develop their role within the team especially with regard as a key person
- Ensure that meal times are a time of pleasant social sharing and staff sit and supervise children at all times
· Wash and change children as required applying high standards of hygiene
· Ensure good standards of safety, hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times
· Ensure any unwell child is kept calm and warm and management is notified immediately
· Develop and maintain strong partnerships and communications with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring and early learning needs
· Always ensure and maintain the provision of a high-quality caring environment meeting the needs of individual children regardless of any disabilities, family backgrounds or medical history
· Promote the high profile of the nursery, its policies and procedures and uphold its standards at all times, both within work hours and outside
· Undertake regular training in accordance with your job role
· Attend monthly staff meetings outside working hours as required
- Undertake any other duties related to the job purpose and which may be necessary to fulfil the nursery’s work
- Carry out all duties in a safe and proper manner in accordance with the company’s Health and Safety Policy

PERSON SPECIFICATION
ESSENTIAL
· NNEB, NVQ, BTEC Level 3 Early Years Childcare and Education or equivalent
· Experience of working with young children and babies
· Understand and able to implement the physical, educational and emotional needs of babies and young children
· Experience of supervising and on-the-job training staff
· Ability to maintain standards
· Ability to use own initiative and work unsupervised whilst maintaining standards
· IT literate and good telephone manner
· Up to date First Aid certificate or willing to complete training
· DBS Certificate (arranged by All Stars)
· Good written and oral communication skills
· Good personal presentation and hygiene
· Flexible, can-do attitude
· Patient, caring and good sense of humour
· Ability to work using on initiative and as part of a team.
Desirable
· Experience of supervising and on-the-job training staff
· Non-smoker preferred
· Car driver, own transport

Holidays 20 days paid per annum + bank holidays (pro-rata)

Uniform / dress code You will be provided with branded polo shirts and tops. You will be required to dress in line with All Stars current policy / dress code.
