Learning Support Assistants – SEMH School
Location: Willesden, North West London
Salary: £100 - £115 per day PAYE
Job Type: Full time, Temp to Perm
Start Date: September 2026
About the role
Some young people do not need someone to tell them to try harder.
They need someone who understands why they are finding school difficult in the first place.
A specialist SEMH school in Willesden is looking for dedicated Learning Support Assistants to join their team and support young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.
This is a role where patience, consistency and the ability to build genuine relationships can be just as important as classroom experience.
The setting
The school supports young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within a specialist and structured environment.
The focus is on helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, regulate their emotions and develop the confidence to engage positively with education.
As an LSA, you will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff and the wider support team to provide consistent support throughout the school day.
The role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:
- Support pupils on a one-to-one and small-group basis
- Help pupils engage with learning and classroom activities
- Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils
- Encourage confidence, resilience and independence
- Help pupils manage barriers to learning
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff
- Support the implementation of behaviour and learning strategies
- Help maintain a calm, safe and structured environment
Who we are looking for
This role would suit someone who is confident working with young people and understands that behaviour is often a form of communication.
Previous experience supporting SEMH, challenging behaviour or SEND would be highly beneficial.
We would also consider candidates from backgrounds including:
- Youth work
- Care or support work
- Psychology or Criminology
- Sports coaching
- Behaviour support
- Education
- Previous Teaching Assistant or LSA roles
You will be:
- Calm and emotionally intelligent
- Patient and resilient
- Confident maintaining boundaries
- Consistent in your approach
- A strong communicator
- Able to build positive relationships
- Comfortable working as part of a wider team
- Committed to helping young people make progress
Why this role matters
For some young people, behaviour has become the thing everyone notices before anything else.
The right LSA can help change that.
You might be the person who helps a pupil regulate after a difficult morning, encourages them back into the classroom or gives them the confidence to attempt something they previously believed they could not do.
Progress in an SEMH setting does not always happen in a straight line.
But when a young person starts trusting adults, engaging with learning and believing they can succeed, those moments are significant.
What you can expect
- Full time, long-term opportunity
- Temp to perm potential
- Specialist SEMH school environment
- Support from experienced teaching and pastoral teams
- Opportunity to develop specialist SEMH experience
- Valuable experience supporting young people with additional needs
- Ongoing support from Parker Smith Inclusion
- PAYE employment with transparent pay arrangements
