Overview
The Great Indoors HVAC Limited is seeking an experienced and proactive Lead Air Conditioning Installation Engineer to join our growing team. This role combines hands-on installation work with leadership responsibilities, overseeing projects from survey through to commissioning while maintaining the highest standards of workmanship, safety, and customer service.
We specialise in domestic and light commercial air conditioning installations across Bristol and the surrounding areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading installations, mentoring trainee engineers, and ensuring projects are completed efficiently, professionally, and in accordance with industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Leading and supervising installation teams on domestic and light commercial projects.
- Installing single-split, multi-split, and light commercial air conditioning systems.
- Installing refrigerant pipework, condensate drainage, trunking, and cable containment systems.
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and manufacturer specifications.
- Conducting site assessments and identifying the most effective installation methods.
- Pressure testing, evacuating, charging, and commissioning systems.
- Completing all work in accordance with current F-Gas regulations, manufacturer requirements, and industry best practice.
- Diagnosing and resolving installation-related issues on site.
- Carrying out servicing, maintenance, and fault-finding where required.
- Coordinating with customers, suppliers, electricians, and other trades to ensure projects run smoothly.
- Training and mentoring trainee engineers and apprentices.
- Ensuring commissioning sheets, service reports, and job documentation are completed accurately.
- Maintaining company vehicles, tools, equipment, and stock levels.
- Leaving every installation clean, tidy, and completed to a professional standard.
- Following company health and safety procedures at all times.
Technical Requirements
Applicants must be able to:
- Independently install and commission air conditioning systems from start to finish.
- Read and interpret installation drawings and technical specifications.
- Carry out pressure testing, vacuuming, charging, and performance testing.
- Diagnose and rectify installation issues efficiently.
- Understand refrigeration principles and system operation.
- Work safely and professionally in occupied residential and commercial environments.
Leadership Responsibilities
As the Lead Installation Engineer, you will:
- Supervise and support trainee and junior engineers.
- Ensure all installations meet company quality standards.
- Promote safe working practices on every project.
- Assist in planning installations and managing workloads.
- Act as the primary technical representative on site.
- Provide feedback to management on project progress, training needs, and operational improvements.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Category 1 F-Gas Certification (Category 1 - 2079-11)
- Minimum 3 years' experience installing air conditioning systems.
- Proven experience with split and multi-split systems.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Right to work in the United Kingdom.
Desirable Qualifications
The following would be advantageous:
- Level 2 or Level 3 Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Qualification.
- ECS or CSCS Card.
- IPAF Certification.
- PASMA Certification.
- Experience with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Fujitsu, Daikin, and Mitsubishi Electric systems.
- Experience supervising or mentoring engineers.
Working Hours
- Monday to Friday.
- Standard working hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm.
- Overtime and occasional weekend work may be available.
- Travel throughout Bristol and surrounding areas will be required.
