We are seeking a dedicated and experienced HSQE Manager to join our team. As HSQE Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental compliance of our operations. You will have the opportunity to lead and implement policies and programs that drive a culture of excellence in these areas.
Working closely with all departmental managers, the focus of the role will be to manage health and safety and ensure compliance with the Company’s Health and Safety Strategy.
Duties of the role include:
- Championing Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental standards across the company.
- Actively engaging employees at all levels on Health and Safety matters to influence behavioral change and embed a proactive safety culture.
- Leading continuous improvement in Health and Safety through the development of an annual improvement plan.
- Owning the development, implementation, and ongoing management of health, safety, quality, and environmental policies and procedures, ensuring all activities are carried out in line with the Company’s Integrated Management System and ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 requirements.
- Leading and delivering audits to ensure full compliance with relevant legislation, company guidelines, recognised standards, and procedures.
- Ensure effective risk assessments and safe systems of work are in place for all company activities.
- Managing the reporting and investigation of accidents and near misses in line with statutory and company requirements, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Undertaking site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks as required.
- Liasing with external parties, including the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), local councils and the Environment agency.
- Supporting Departmental Managers in implementing changes through guidance and training, ensuring alignment with ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 requirements within the Integrated Management System.
- Taking ownership of the maintenance and ongoing compliance of company accreditations, including Achilles, CIRAS, RISQS, and ISO certifications, and supporting the business in maintaining compliance with the Common Assessment Standard.
- Ensuring the Company’s Integrated Management System supports compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022, including subcontractor responsibilities relating to risk management, competence, and governance. Collaborating with department heads to identify training needs and develop appropriate training solutions.
- Delivering and facilitating health and safety training, to ensure personnel are informed, competent and act responsibly to protect themselves and others.
- Actively promoting the reporting of near misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to encourage shared responsibility for continual improvement across the company.
- Maintain accurate records of safety audits, inspections, accidents and incidents and making evidence-based recommendations for improvement.
Qualifications:
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent) is essential.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in HSQE management, preferably within the Construction sector.
- Strong working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and industry standards.
- Demonstrable experience of audits, inspections and incident investigation.
- Experience managing third‑party accreditations.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Analytical and risk-based approach.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Desirable (but not mandatory):
- Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Quality Management).
- IOSH certification desirable.
- Internal Auditor qualification (ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001).
The successful candidate will have a hands-on approach, providing guidance and encouragement to ensure individuals carry out their roles effectively and in line with company requirements. A flexible approach to working hours is required, and experience within a manufacturing or fabrication environment would be advantageous.
The role requires the ability to work confidently under pressure, make sound decisions and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills. The successful applicant will possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritise and manage a demanding and varied workload, supported by strong planning, organisational, and time management capabilities.
The successful applicant will be an effective communicator at all levels, with a proactive, pragmatic and solutions-focused approach to work.
The role will require regular site visits; therefore, a full UK driving licence and a valid CSCS card are essential.
