Fixed Term Senior Radiographer
Location: UME
Reporting to: Imaging Manager
Contract: Fixed Term Cover (Mid July 2026 to End of January 2027 – approximately 6.5 months)

Imaging Manager
Core Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
Clinical
-
Perform a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures, including MRIs, CT scans, fluoroscopy and X-Rays. Cardiac MRI and/or Cardiac CT experience is essential.

Participate in IV cannulations.

Prepare and position patients for imaging procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort

Operate and maintain imaging equipment to produce high quality diagnostic images – reporting any faults found as required

Monitor patients during procedures, adjusting as necessary to ensure the optimum images are obtained

Ensure the correct documentation is fully completed in relation to patient information, imaging results and policy and procedure

Properly adhere to safety procedures to minimise radiation exposure to patients and colleagues
-
Maintain knowledge about advancements in imaging technology and participate in ongoing professional development

Assist in maintaining a clean and organised work environment, including equipment maintenance and quality control procedures

Participate in governance programs including regular auditing and quality control.

Work in accordance with the “Code of Practice for the use of Ionising Radiation” and IR(M)ER regulations.

Document and report any adverse incident or near misses on the incident reporting system.

Support administrative team with patient bookings, vetting and administrative duties when required.

Communicate in a professional manner, safely, effectively and empathetically with patients and their carers prior to, during and after an examination.
General Duties

Report to the Imaging Manager all untoward incidents that occur to patients, staff or visitors within the Department.

To work as a member of the Interprofessional team.

To be flexible in the performance of the post, particularly regarding clinics and administration, hours and site cover and to carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by senior staff

Person Specification
Qualifications and Special Training
Essential
-
Degree in Diagnostic Imaging
-
HCPC registered (Healthcare Professionals Council).
Knowledge
Essential

Relevant Competencies for the role

Up-to-date knowledge in area of practice

Excellent clinical applied knowledge which is evidenced based and takes account of national best practice standards

Basic workload / shift management skills

Proficient in the use of a PC, including the use of software and systems.
Skills and Experience
Essential

MRI and/or CT trained
-
High level of understanding with regards to clinical governance and protocols

Experience working within an imaging department (ideally MRI) and clinical environment such as cardiothoracic, orthopaedic or ENT ward/department

Well-developed interpersonal and excellent communication skills both orally and written
