Job Title: Floating Charity Shop Assistant Manager
Location: Kent (Covering shops in Birchington, Ramsgate and Hythe, primarily based in Ramsgate)
Salary: £12.71 per hour plus mileage expenses from base shop to others
Job Type: Part-Time (Permanent)
Hours: 16 hours per week guaranteed, up to 40 hours if covering holidays or sickness) including weekend work on a rota basis.

We are a passionate, local, independent animal rescue charity based in Kent, dedicated to caring for and rehoming abandoned, neglected, and injured animals. Because we are independent, every pound raised in our charity shops goes directly toward feeding, housing, and providing veterinary care for our animals.
The Role
We are looking for an energetic and flexible Floating Charity Shop Assistant Manager to support our shop teams across Kent. You will work closely with our Shop Managers to drive sales, manage stock, and lead our invaluable volunteers. As a floating manager, no two days will be the same; you will bring your retail expertise to different locations, ensuring our high standards are maintained in the absence of the permanent manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Cover Management: Provide cover for Shop Managers during holidays, sickness, and busy periods, taking full responsibility for shop operations.
- Boost Income: Drive sales and maximize Gift Aid to meet shop targets and generate vital funds for animal welfare.
- Merchandising: Use your creative flair to create inviting window displays and ensure the shop floor is constantly refreshed with high-quality stock.
- Volunteer Support: Lead, motivate, and train our diverse team of volunteers, ensuring they feel valued and part of the animal-saving team.
- Stock Management: Sort, steam, price, and rotate donated goods, ensuring we maintain a high standard of merchandise.
- Operations & Safety: Handle cash reconciliation and ensure all Health & Safety/Trading Standards procedures are strictly followed.
- Optimise overall store profitability by identifying, photographing, and listing high-value donations for sale across online marketplaces, whilst ensuring a steady, high-quality stream of stock remains available for our physical shop floors.
About You
- Experience: Proven experience in retail (charity retail experience is a plus!).
- Passionate: A genuine love for animals and a passion for supporting our charity's mission.
- Flexible: Willing to travel between our Kent locations and adapt quickly to new teams.
- People Person: Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and build a community around our shops.
- Physical Stamina: Able to manage the physical demands of retail work (lifting, shifting bags of stock).
- Driving Licence: A full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
