Hire Controller
Salary: £35,000 to £37,000
Hours: Monday to Friday 8am to 5:30pm
We are looking for an experienced Hire Controller to join a busy and established team in Essex. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in the powered access industry who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and delivering outstanding customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage engineer workloads, daily schedules, overtime and client communications to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
- Oversee job documentation, quotations, invoicing, stock management and the timely supply of parts.
- Provide administrative support to the hire desk, handling customer enquiries, contracts, logistics and telesales activities.
- Ensure all hire equipment meets required compliance standards, including LOLER and PDI requirements.
- Coordinate parts enquiries and supplier relationships, while maintaining accurate stock records, including van stock.
- Monitor driver, vehicle and fleet compliance, ensuring all tracking and audit records are kept up to date.
- Coordinate the management of visitors and contractors, including sign-in procedures, required documentation, health and safety and PPE.
- Provide general administrative and customer support, ensuring GDPR requirements are followed while maintaining a high standard of organisation, accuracy and attention to detail.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven background in administration, coordination, or a similar support-focused role.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing.
- Highly organised, with excellent time management and the ability to prioritise competing tasks effectively.
- Confident using technology and a range of Microsoft Office applications.
- Comfortable working independently, managing responsibilities with minimal supervision, and remaining effective in a fast-paced environment.
- Thorough and detail-oriented, with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
- Familiarity with Xero would be an advantage, although full training will be provided.
- Previous experience within the equipment hire industry or in an engineering support role would be beneficial.
