Role Overview
We are currently recruiting for a motivated and enthusiastic Purchasing Assistant to join our dynamic team, based in our Motherwell Office. The successful candidate will provide support to the Supply Chain & Purchasing team through stock management, order tracking, delivery monitoring and purchasing coordination. The role will involve a variety of stock control, purchasing and administrative tasks, including assisting with the financial administration of the store and undertaking other general administrative duties as allocated by the Purchasing Director.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in Purchasing, Procurement or Supply Chain. We welcome applications from recent graduates or individuals who have completed a relevant college or university qualification, particularly those with some exposure to purchasing, procurement, stock control or supply chain activities. We also welcome applications from candidates who have gained relevant experience in a purchasing, stock control or supply chain environment, regardless of whether they hold a relevant qualification.
Key Responsibilities
- Tracking orders and monitoring delivery schedules
- Checking system alerts and taking appropriate action
- Monitoring back orders and urgent purchases
- Updating SimPRO and other databases
- Maintaining supplier contact lists
- Answering supplier emails and phone calls
Experience, Qualifications & Skills Required
- A relevant qualification in Purchasing, Procurement, Supply Chain, Business Administration or a related subject is desirable, but not essential.
- Applications are welcomed from recent graduates and candidates who can demonstrate relevant experience through employment, internships, placements, apprenticeships, college/university projects or other relevant activities.
- Previous experience in a purchasing, procurement, administration, stock control or supply chain environment would be advantageous, but full training will be provided.
- A genuine interest in developing a career within Purchasing, Procurement or Supply Chain.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate confidently with suppliers and colleagues.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage, organise and prioritise your workload against competing deadlines within a demanding and ever-changing environment.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- A flexible team player who can also work independently and use their initiative.
- Good IT skills and confidence working with databases and systems.
- Ability to undertake manual handling and heavy lifting tasks safely and in accordance with company procedures.
