Libraries and Neighbourhood Hubs are seeking a motivated and professional individual to join our Service Development and Support (SDS) team. This key role supports service‑wide projects and initiatives that strengthen strategic priorities, enhance community impact, and help the library service adapt in a rapidly changing cultural and digital landscape.
We are looking for a proactive communicator who is confident engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and brings experience in project support, staff training, digital solutions and community engagement. Collaboration across teams and with external partners is central to the role, alongside a strong focus on performance monitoring and service improvement.
The post will take a lead role within the Systems & Digital strand of the SDS team. Responsibilities include providing first‑line support for the Library Management System (LMS) and other digital platforms, maintaining processes and documentation, and supporting the introduction of new technologies. The postholder will also contribute to the service’s digital communications by creating and scheduling social media content, monitoring engagement and ensuring all posts meet corporate standards.
As part of a flexible SDS team, the role will also support work across the Stock Management and Performance, Statistics & Project Support strands. This includes contributing to project delivery, supporting staff training, assisting with marketing campaigns and events, and undertaking stock‑related tasks such as recommendations for procurement, allocation and disposal. The postholder will help manage customer enquiries, requests and complaints in line with agreed procedures.
Confidence with a wide range of ICT is essential and knowledge of library-specific systems is advantageous. The post also contributes to work that enhances the customer experience by introducing new technologies and supporting digital inclusion.
The post holder will also be required to supervise and allocate work to a small team, including planning workloads and undertaking formal performance and development reviews.
Lifting and handling tasks form a regular part of the working day. The post operates on a rota designed to meet operational needs, so flexibility is important. Evening and weekend working may be required, along with travel between library sites and attendance at outreach or promotional events.
The library service is seeking someone who works confidently both independently and as part of a team, and who brings a flexible, positive and proactive approach to service delivery.
