Personal Assistant / Support Worker
Reports to: Employer (this is not Wrexham County borough council)
Rate of Pay: £13.45 per hour

Positions Available: 2x part-time positions
Hours / Working Pattern:
We are looking to recruit two part-time Personal Assistants to provide support to a 37-year-old autistic woman.
The support is required across the week (Monday to Friday) and will be divided between the two successful applicants. Hours can be discussed to find a suitable working arrangement.
Support is currently required for:
3.5 days per week to attend day services.
1.5 days per week to take part in activities of her choosing within the community.
1 evening per week to access an activity of her choice.
Some flexibility will be required to meet the individual's needs and agreed activities.
Job Purpose:
To provide person-centred care and support to enable the individual to access her community and participate in activities that are meaningful and enjoyable to her.
The individual is non-verbal and communicates using Makaton. She would benefit from patient, consistent support which encourages her to make her own choices and builds her confidence in communicating and interacting with others.
A key part of the role will be getting to know the individual, understanding how she communicates her needs and preferences, and supporting her to have as much choice and control over her daily life as possible.
Job Description:
Support to attend day service placement at The Erlas Victorian Walled Garden in Wrexham.
Community-based support should focus on providing opportunities for the individual to make choices about how she spends her time, explore activities that interest her and develop her confidence and independence.
The individual requires support with some personal care.
An understanding of trigger management, including recognising early signs and responding calmly and consistently, would be beneficial.
The successful applicants should take time to develop a positive and trusting relationship with the individual and work in a way that is guided by her individual needs, preferences and communication.
We are looking for someone who is patient, reliable, calm and person-centred, with a genuine commitment to supporting the individual to have choice and control over her life.
Previous experience of supporting autistic people is preferred. Experience or knowledge of Makaton would also be beneficial, although a willingness to learn and use the individual's preferred method of communication is important.
An understanding of autism, non-verbal communication and the management of potential triggers would be advantageous.
