Semi-formal SEND Teaching Assistant
We are a specialist education recruitment agency working in close partnership with a welcoming and supportive school in Leeds, who are looking to appoint a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support within their semi-formal classroom.
This is a rewarding opportunity to work with pupils who require a structured but flexible approach to learning, combining elements of both formal and informal teaching. The Role:
As a SEND Teaching Assistant in a semi-formal class, you will:
· Support pupils with a range of additional needs including autism, ADHD and moderate learning difficulties
· Assist in delivering a semi-formal curriculum, balancing academic learning with life skills and communication development
· Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual EHCP targets
· Help implement routines, sensory strategies and behaviour support plans#
· Encourage independence, social interaction and emotional regulation
· Work closely with teachers, professionals and other support staff
The Ideal Candidate:
· Understands the importance of routine, consistency and differentiated support
· Is calm, patient and adaptable to changing needs throughout the day
· Has strong communication skills and is willing to learn alternative communication techniques
· Has a nurturing approach and gets stuck into anything thrown at them
Qualifications & Requirements:
· Minimum qualifications required – A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification or a background in education or care (NVQ, CACHE, Degree or equivalent)
· Experience supporting children with SEND
· Passionate working with young children or adults with disabilities

Role Type: Full Time/ Part Time/ Temp - Perm
Pay Rate: £14.60 - £16.90 per hour
Working Hours
Monday – Friday
8.30am – 3.30pm

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do, and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education, you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
