Company Overview
The Design Manager will lead and manage the design department to successfully deliver projects within our portfolio, ensuring that all architectural outputs meet the highest standards of legislation, quality and functionality. The role requires a strategic thinker with a robust understanding of the RIBA process, architectural practices, UK building regulations, line management and output-based co-ordination and management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the design team, ensuring high performance and continuous improvement.
- Allocate resources effectively across projects to meet deadlines and quality standards.
- Conduct regular team meetings to discuss project progress, challenges, and resource needs.
- Oversee the creation of architectural designs from concept through to detailed development, ensuring alignment with client briefs.
- Ensure all designs are innovative, sustainable, and meet the company’s standards for quality and excellence.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, engineers, and contractors, to ensure cohesive design solutions.
- Manage the design process within budgetary and time constraints.
- Conduct regular design reviews, ensuring all work complies with UK building regulations and planning requirements.
- Identify potential design risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Provide regular updates to senior management and clients on project status.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients during the design phase, ensuring their needs and expectations are met.
- Prepare and present design proposals to clients and stakeholders, ensuring clear communication of ideas and solutions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring repeat business and client satisfaction.
- Conduct site visits to ensure design compliance.
- Adherence to Company operating systems and Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Carry out duties as directed by Senior Management.
Experience and Skills Required
- Knowledge of Architectural and Construction design principles and the ability to create and read technical drawings.
- Proven experience of running teams in a BIM environment.
- Knowledge of the UK planning process.
- IT skills and experience using computer aided design software such as AutoCAD, REVIT etc.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to change priorities, deadlines and workloads at short notice.
- Reliability and discretion to deal with confidential, sensitive project information.
- Ability to build relationships with key project personnel.
- Mathematical skills and spatial awareness to complete calculations and drawings.
- Confident problem solver, using creative and innovative ways to deliver design solutions.
- Proven competence in interpreting and translating complex legal documents into operational delivery.
- Working knowledge of health and safety requirements.
- Working knowledge of the Building Regulations and the RIBA Plan of Works
Pay: From £39,000.00 per year
