East Riding Sacks Limited is the largest paper sack manufacturer in the United Kingdom and one of Europe's leading producers. We are located near Pocklington in East Yorkshire (YO41 1HS). We are situated approximately 5 miles from Pocklington, 12 miles from Market Weighton, 13 miles from York, 20 miles from Driffield and 23 miles from Beverley.
We are now recruiting for full time, permanent Production Operatives to join our existing team, working on a three-week rotating shift system.
The role will include assisting machine operatives, undertaking quality control checks, booking in raw materials, and assist in the setting up process of the sack conversion lines.
Shift Training Rate of Pay: £15.10 per hour (£37,690 per annum)
After completion of the initial training the successful candidate will then move on to the advanced training programme to become an Operator:
- Rate upon completion of 1st phase of training is £17.06 per hour (£42,582 per annum)
- Rate upon completion of tuber operator training is £18.55 per hour (£46,301 per annum)
- Rate upon completion of 2nd phase of tuber operator training is £19.93 per hour (£49,745 per annum)
- Rate of completion of 3rd phase of tuber operator training is £21.31 per hour (£53,190 per annum)
Hours of Work: 6:00am to 6:00pm and 6:00pm to 6:00am (12-hour shifts on a three-week rotating system)
Purpose of the job:
Assist the machine operators, undertaking quality control checks, booking in raw materials and assist in the setting up process of the sack conversion lines.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Read the works order and determine the paper reels required for an order.
- Reels to be booked in, on the reel usage sheet.
- Remove any reel wrapping paper, and using the overhead hoist, place the reels into the correct reel station.
- Assist the Operator in the setting up of the tuber at start-up / changeovers.
- During the production set up and during manufacture, follow checking procedures and assist the Operator in identifying misprints, waste, and tape joins; and to ensure misprint and waste are segregated to the correct storage locations.
- Keep the machine and area tidy at all times to prevent contamination of the product
- Carry out glue mixing, and cleaning of the unit as required.
- Assist the Operator to ensure that the production line is operated in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ensure all waste is correctly segregated and disposed of in the appropriate waste container.
- Awareness and adherence to the Company’s, Quality, Health and Safety, and Environmental Policies and Procedures.
- Strict adherence of the Company Hygiene Policy and Procedure.
Knowledge/Abilities/Skills required:
- Understanding of relevant Quality Control Procedures, Health & Safety and Product Safety Requirements and Material Specifications.
- Trained and competent in driving a forklift truck and operating an overhead hoist.
- Understanding of the Tubing Process and its controls and operation of the palletiser.
- Thorough understanding of change over procedures.
- Ability to perform competently, a variety of machine operational functions as instructed.
- Basic reading and writing skills.
Qualifications/Experience:
- No formal qualifications.
- No special requirements.

In-house training is provided in accordance with a separate Training Programme for this job.
