Scotland's Railway is part of this large family and it covers a large geographical area from the Borders to Thurso at the far tip of the North East of Scotland, accounting for almost 20 per cent of the UK rail network. We provide rapid access along busy commuter routes to our seven cities, servicing the varied needs of our business and leisure commuter services, including cross border services and rural services. We have up to 50 freight services operating every day and we are steadily building capacity for this to grow. This is a Full-Ti me / 6 month Secondment.
The Control Centre Technician collates and interrogates information from asset monitoring equipment and makes arrangements to attend where alarms demand as necessary. They provide support to maintenance teams in response to alarms, alerts and scheduled maintenance activities. They also undertake inspection, faulting, maintenance and renewal work to relevant standards.
This role is responsible for ensuring all work activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with company policies, industry standards, and safe systems of work. You will establish and maintain effective safety arrangements for staff and contractors, ensuring individuals are competent, appropriately trained, and working with safe, fit¿for¿purpose vehicles, tools, plant, and equipment. You will oversee day¿to¿day operational activities, direct work in line with approved procedures, and maintain high standards of quality, safety, and asset compliance.
The post holder will monitor data from remote condition monitoring systems, work closely with Control teams, Section Managers, and Engineers to analyse faults, and manage fault entries through to resolution. Accurate reporting, record¿keeping, and closure of fault management activities are essential. You will take ownership of work completion reporting, contribute to continuous improvement, and support the development of both yourself and your team, helping to drive a safe, compliant, and high¿performing working environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain appropriate safety arrangements for staff under your control including Contractors.
- Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements or other relevant instructions.
- Undertake work and associated duties for which you are trained and competent.
- Monitor information arising from remote condition monitoring equipment and liaise as required with Controls, Section Managers and Engineers on fault analysis, response and prioritisation of entry into fault management systems.
- Manage entries and close out of faults in the fault management and fault rectification activities.
- Undertake and direct work activities in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with all relevant standards.
- Control and check the quality of work undertaken and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
- Check that the staff under your control have the appropriate and valid competencies.
- Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials under your control are fit for use and are used/stored and disposed of correctly.
- Accurately report all work completed/not completed and produce/maintain records as required.
- Contribute to your own development and that of others.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures.
The Control Centre Technician is a safety critical role. If not already held by the successful applicant, any offer of employment will be subject to passing the relevant pre-appointment medical, including a drug & alcohol test.
Please be aware that this role will involve working unsociable hours including weekends, nights and bank holidays. You may also be required to work on-call.
Grade: Maintenance Grade Terms and Conditions (Standard Maintenance Contract)
Salary: £56,777
